  • Cool. So the expectation is that with your second idea, I should be able to see actual different (stable) voltages on the different wires, which eliminates the need for the time averaging, right? I'll try it out. Commented Jul 11, 2018 at 5:50
  • I tried it out, and this (second idea with the voltage divider circuit) seems to work fine. The only minor downside I'm noticing is that if the user has two wires connected to the same terminal, it affects all the voltages read across the other terminals, making it hard to give the user incremental feedback on how many wires are correctly connected.   • Ahhh, I was not aware of the need to provide incremental feedback. In that case you will need 6 different voltage divider networks. I will edit my answer to include this. Commented Jul 12, 2018 at 13:48
