1I'm using zip files since forever without issues. JRE is packed in subdirectory, so it should be working without it installed on OS level. That portable directory is great, never heard about it before.KIIV– KIIV2020-10-08 15:14:23 +00:00Commented Oct 8, 2020 at 15:14

1Just unpack arduino ide, jump into its directory and start Arduino.exe. It's expecting to have java in subdirectory. Btw, when I renamed java subdirectory, I've got exactly the same error message. (another way might be creating symlink to the system java instalation directory, or find out how to create Arduino.exe without that java bundling)KIIV– KIIV2020-10-13 11:04:07 +00:00Commented Oct 13, 2020 at 11:04

1These instructions are interesting. Mainly section "Issues / Solution #1" - "When I used default Windows 'extract all' it didn't create half the folders which included java.".KIIV– KIIV2020-10-13 11:12:30 +00:00Commented Oct 13, 2020 at 11:12

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. arduino-uno), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
