In which Games did the cry change?--Slogankid1 15:04, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- FFI-IV-Cooc cooc; FFV-FFVIII-Wark; FFIX-current-Kewh (apparently this is the Japanese sound). Crazyswordsman 20:43, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
CSM you are the master of the chocobo and their sounds and for that I bow to you.
Has anyone noticed that the Japanese translations are becoming more and more accepted nowadays and are staying in the English versions of the games. (eg. Dead or Alive started with english dubs but now has the original Jap dubs.)
Like the incident with translation of Rude or Lude and Aeris or Aerith?Kaospyri 22:26, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Four games per cry? Who's willing to bet that XIII will have a completely different cry? That would be hilarious! TheMasterFighter 20:10, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
ffxii[]
In FFXII there are enemy Red, Black, White, Green and Brown Chocobos, each with different stats. Should a page be made, like Chocobo (Final Fantasy XII) to house in all the enemy stats in one page? Or should it even be there?
That's a toughy. I would probably either go with that, and make sections for each type, or split them up in like Red Chocobo (Final Fantasy XII), Blue Chocobo (Final Fantasy XII) and so on. Seeing how there are several, I would go with the latter
So let me get this straight...[]
In this whole article, there is not one mention of how ridiculously cute chocobos are? I mean, I know that it can easily be said that they're so cute it doesn't actually need to be stated, but still... YellowMage 12:09, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
That's something to do with wiki's in general, it's almost impossible to find a reliable source for a chocobo's "cuteness". (I personally don't think there cute but...) Malboro 03:33, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- Being a wiki, it has to hold a certain degree of neutrality. While Chocobos (in some installments) are cute, it's really not something you'd put in a page. However, your userpage's fine. --Auron Kaizer 08:25, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Chocobo Tales[]
Chocobo Tales must be moved to the non-FF games, isn't it?. I've got images from Tobal, Secret of Evermore and more games with Chocos, maybe i'll upload it tomorrow
attack of the chocobos[]
Seriously, they can hurt. Especially choco-meteor. Why no mention of these special attacks (kick, comet, meteor etc)?
Maybe because it is explained in its individual pages. If there isn't, we could create Battle section to list its attacks, abilities and whatnot.
Chocobo series[]
A chocobo games series article should be made.
You mean like Final Fantasy series?
Something like that. Like a parent page.
Weird Thought[]
More than one Chocobo. Do you call them "Chocobo" (as in fish) or are they "Chocobos"? I always thought they were "Chocobo" because "Chocobos" sounds awful.
I believe I've heard a few characters referring to them as "chocobos". I guess they aren't of the "moose sheep fish phoenix" school of irregular verbs.
Master Conjurer — (talk) 22:36, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
The word originates in Japanese, where there is no plural form, so I always assumed it was "chocobo." Every other foreign word is done in that strain of logic.
For all we knwo it could be Chocobi! lol Kaospyri 22:28, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Master Conjurer — (talk) 00:18, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
I've found the official word. Square's official site for Chocobo Tales uses "Chocobos" over and over.
Henryacores - "É que esta noite vou lançar ao mar/A bruma que houver em mim./Vou beber e cantar este luar/vou dançar até ao fim." TALK - 02:01, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
I think they're called Chocobos in FFX or X-2.
Master Conjurer — (talk) 02:32, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Then 'twould appear to me as though the page were correct as-is.
Mmm, chocolate bird.[]
What's the proper way to pronounce Chocobo? I've always said it like "Chalk-a-bo", but I can't shake the feeling it's something else and I'm being ignorant for saying it that way. Dorsha 20:46, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Final Fantasy Unlimited says it "Choke-a-Bow". That's how I always thought it was said.
I always thought it was "Choke-Hobo" but whatever.
I've always pronounced it in accordance to the Japanese spelling, "Cho-ko-bo". Which sounds pretty stupid, now that I think about it...
Chok-kah-boe
Through it being originally pronounced by my brother/s like that. Choek-kah-boe sounds stupid to me. ILHI 16:00, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I always pronounced it Choke-o-boKaospyri 22:30, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Late topic but I pronounce it as Choh-Koh-Boh, or in Filipino, Tso-ko-boh DB36
Master Conjurer — (talk) 02:30, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
We really should deploy IPA more often. Such things wouldn't happen as much if we had /Tɕokobo/ written.
Parodies[]
Naruto[]
This is the "Chocobo" that appears in Naruto... http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/3781/deidaragifjf6.gif Uhmm, I'm not sure that is a true reference to a FF Chocobo... Judge yourselves. If this bird is posted in the Chocobo's article, every giant bird in any media (comic, videogame, books, lingerie ads..) could be a Chocobo reference, isn't it?
The entire parody section is pretty bad. Get rid of it that doesn't remotely look like a chocobo.
That looks nothing like a Chocobo!
Chocobos cant even fly!
- Actually, in Final Fantasy IX, gold Chocobos can fly.
Master Conjurer — (talk) 04:02, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
That doesn't change the fact that it looks nothing like a chocobo.
World of Warcraft[]
This is the "Parody" in WoW. This is much Chocobo than Naruto's http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/603/ss1ue3.jpg
Battle for Wesnoth[]
And this is the "Chocobo" that can be found in the opensource game BfW http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/7545/undeadchocobonech0.gif
Ragnarok Online[]
The PecoPecos, another "
A lot of these should just be removed unless it's very obvious they're a parody (such as the ones that play on the Chocobos name). Cause most of these are people who just assume "Well they're a large bird and are in video games so they MUST be a parody."
As Monsters[]
I don't know when, but as some point these adorable birds turned into quite the recurring enemy: FFT, FFTA2, FFXII, Revenant Wings, even the random battle ones from FFVII could kill you. Should we add that little "Monsters" template at the bottom?
Yes, it makes sense. | |||
Personally, I think its own page at "Chocobo (Enemy)", appearing as a "main" under a new section below musical themes. Although this page does cover it; it just seems this page is too long to even extract the information and for it to be easy to tell it has so many appearances. ILHI 09:07, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
--Kaospyri 21:16, 14 March 2009 (UTC) style="color:red;">It clearly says there avian's which means they fly avian is a bird of flight unlike the ground running chocobos =>
WTF i didn't say that!!!!!!?!?!?!?!?Kaospyri 22:32, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Born from Darkness Talk · Contribs 20:05, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree that the Chocobo (Enemy) page should be created, as well as a Chocobo (Summon) article. The page is mostly stretched with these two things (as well as mostly the reference list, which needs to be toned down).
Here is the technical answer: As Chocobo (enemy) does not function as chocobo (mount), the games themselves recognise that these are two completely separate entities and as such this wiki should treat them as such.
Trivia[]
Master Conjurer — (talk) 21:55, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
I'm not so sure the terror bird reference belongs. I looked at the Wikipedia page, and the "terror bird" has as much resemblance to a Chocobo as an ostrich or emu.
"Okay?". | |||
Master Conjurer — (talk) 18:51, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
It has since been removed, so you likely cannot see what I was talking about.

Guys I removed some dead links from this page (Al Zahbi, Crystal Defender W3, Chocobo (Final Fantasy XI) main article, because these pages has not been made yet. Any Comments, Reactions, and Violent Reactions would be settled down calmly. Thank You.

Devil Breaker - And I'm alone now, me and all I stood for. We're wandering now TALK - Eternal Conflicts never end. - All my fears turn to rage.
OK, the Crystal Defenders maybe needed coz the game's page (and even the game)hasn't been released or made. But the FFXI pages (Chocobo FFXI, Al Zahbi) No one made these pages yet, even though the game's released, so some people might have expertise in these game. but no one's making these pages.
Master Conjurer — (talk) 02:44, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
But you must consider that a lot of pages (FFXI especially) were getting done a little while ago and have stopped as the end of what is for most of us is a semester drew nearer. When the students have a break, trust me: plenty of pages will be created. I personally have finals this upcoming week, and I'm sure that many other students' are soon, as well.

OK masterConjurer, I'll just wait for you guys for your sem-break. then could you fix these pages? thanks.
The wiki doesn't work to a deadline. The wiki can create pages whenever a user wants. ILHI 17:55, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
"Kweh"?[]
Is this link supposed to do that? I mean, Kweh links itself to... itself.
Gender[]
Deadlyslashsword - +It takes disaster to learn a lesson, but you're going to make it through the darkest nights+ TALK - 02:00, November 3, 2009 (UTC) - Some people betray and cause treason...we're gonna make everything alright.
In FFV, Bartz mentions that that the chocobo they come across in World 2 (supposedly Koko) cannot be ridden because she's female. 1. Why can't female chocobos be ridden? Bartz doesn't give a reason. 2. Is this rule mentioned in any other game? 3. If so, does it deserve a mention on the page?
- You can ride female Chocobos on FFVII no problem. Maybe its because Koko was pregnant or something? I haven't played FFV --Sencilia 09:27, November 3, 2009 (UTC)
Maybe the gender thing came up so to be used as a plot point so you wouldn't traverse through a certain area easily. Besides the female chocobo in question (Koko) doesn't get pregnant until World 1 and World 2 fuse together into world 3 late in the game. Guess we can chalk it up the the RPG cliche of the "not geting the airship til the end of the game rule".
Cleaning the Choco-pen[]
It's getting a little messy in here. Perhaps I could alter the layout to something similar to what is used here: List of antagonists. Any objections?
Object becuz that method sucks. Why should spinoffs be separate from the game it's spun from anyway? Srsly? That makes no sense whatsoever. Also it's not what we're supposed to do. ILHI 15:36, December 6, 2009 (UTC)
Split[]
A contribution to cleaning up this massive article is to split this page into Chocobo and Chocobo (Summon) as done in Moogle. - Henryacores^ 00:51, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
- How can you vouch for merging all appearances and references of Shiva into a single page, but not for Chocobo? It works on a similar basis... or maybe not, meh.
- Besides, I can't see how it's going to cleanup anything IMO. 79.69.205.229 17:46, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
- One thing has absolutely no relation to the other. First, Shiva and Ifrit were disambigs; Second, they had links to minor appearances and boss appearances in where games they are summonable (links also present in the summon pages); Third, the disambig's links were to content derived from the summon appearance.
- Chocobo as a summon is, at first hand, a different concept than the Chocobo as a vehicle. This page is gigantic, like Moogle's. Thus, splitting the page in these two approaches to its content is a good way to make it clearer.
- We don't cover boss appearances inside Shiva and Ifrit, and if we do it's a small coverage, because they are normally aquired as summons after such encounters.
- So, in a nutshell, Shiva, Ifrit, Bahamut, Leviathan and Odin, are more prominent as Summons and everything else is background in relation to their summon appearances, thus why their summon info is covered at their parent. Chocobo does not share this situation. It is a vehicle\mascot which appears as a summon in a select number of games.
- So yeah, it should be split like "Moogle (Summon)" and "Gilgamesh (Summon)". - Henryacores^ 21:20, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
- Well, the "Chocobo" article isn't for the vehicle, it's for EVERYTHING Chocobo. Just like Shiva is for EVERYTHING Shiva, it just happens that Shiva is most-often a summon.
- TBH, as long as each summon appearance as at least mentioned on the corresponding section on the Chocobo article, then there isn't really a problem of splitting relevant information into a child article. 79.69.205.229 21:59, June 9, 2011 (UTC)
Format[]
I always assumed that the article structure had been here for a long time. I recall some pages using weird structures (like List of antagonists) and I assumed they were just never changed. But then I discovered that it was something that Netherith changed for some reason.
This article structure is not how we format articles and should be changed, right? 79.69.198.107 14:14, October 23, 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed. There are a lot of appearances though. Maybe Netherith wanted to make the page seem less cluttered? Regardless, this page will look clutter either way. It's starting to look a bit like a disaster zone. ScatheMote 15:37, October 23, 2011 (UTC)
How about the spin-off section. Are sequels supposed top be in it? sΓΣamyGoreng 04:44, January 12, 2012 (UTC)
Rogue Galaxy appearances[]
Okay, there are references of Chocobo in a PS2 game Rogue Galaxy. There are Chocobo-like creatures in that game. And when you interacting to them, several of them even shouts "kweh". So, should we put it in the article? 141.0.10.20 22:52, April 19, 2012 (UTC)
Game Order[]
It looks pretty ordered to me. Unless you're wanting the various sections- Compilation, etc, to be removed and all the appearances merged into one section, I'm not sure what you're asking when you want the games ordered. I checked the MoS and it seems to match up, though I could have missed one or two. Tia-Lewise 09:54, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
- There's only supposed to be one "Appearances" section for all games within our scope. While it is technically in-order for each sub-section, these sub-sections are not supposed to exist. 79.69.207.235 11:27, July 8, 2012 (UTC)
Lunar 2[]
If it's just a small reference, and not an appearance shouldn't it be in the trivia?Tetraninja321 19:43, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
Has there ever been a game with zombie chocobos?[]
If not there should be. They could call it the Warking Dead. 01:56, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
...Ahahaha! XD Maybe in a horror spoof of Final Fantasy. JuriSuzuki 14:00, August 30, 2013 (UTC)
Is this appropriate Chocobo trivia?[]
While playing an IOS game called Draw Something (it's kinda like online pictionary) I cam across Chocobos in one of the option panels (under video games). I took a picture in case it is needed as evidence. Does that count as trivia? TMG- Why? (talk) 07:56, April 15, 2014 (UTC)
- If it hasn't been legally allowed by Square Enix then it should be in Final Fantasy in popular culture article instead. Monterossa (talk) 08:49, April 15, 2014 (UTC)
- I guess it would go under "Non-Final Fantasy Appearances", but are these draw somethings user-generated though?Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 21:37, April 15, 2014 (UTC)
Kweh Audio Sample[]
I think it would be an interesting idea to have a kweh audio sample section that covers all the game's chocobo sounds or something within this article. Games that have a kwek sound; FFVI, FFIX, and FFXIII have chocobo making a sound. There's propably more games that chocobos make a sound, but those three are the only ones that comes to mind right now. While on the same subject, I'm pretty sure moogles and cactuars make sounds too. Those could be put in their respective articles. Fenrir9 (talk) 16:41, February 10, 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed. I only know of the "warble" and "pwooweeoo" sounds from FFVII, the "pweee" from FFXIV, and the "WEHHH?" from FFVIIR. I particularly like the cries in Remake because they're appropriately expressive for something which one of Sam's sidequests compels you to empathise with. They're supposed to be distinct, but Remake is the only one I've heard so far that just makes them sound not like pissed-off budgerigars. Nox13last (talk) 18:30, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
