Personal website of Jack Love

Hello!

I am a mathematician, artist, and educator in San Francisco, California.

I hold a PhD in mathematics from George Mason University and a Masters in Design from California College of the Arts.

I have held faculty positions at George Mason University, San Francisco State University, and City College of San Francisco.

I was a founding co-director at San Francisco Math Circle Summer Camp and Outreach Director at Mason Experimental Geometry Lab at George Mason University.

I was an exhibiting artist at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in 2014 and 2019.

I am currently a volunteer at Mount Tamalpais College at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. I also create fun math presentations for K-12 classrooms and offer private tutoring for all ages and skill levels.

Tutoring
Background

I have 20 years of experience tutoring, teaching, leading math camps, and doing mathematics community outreach.

I have worked with students ranging from elementary school to adult, online and in person, at tutoring centers, coffee shops, and kitchen tables.

Whatever your mathematical goals are—studying for a test, better grades on homework, or just satisfying curiosity and learning something new—I want to help you achieve them!

Testimonials

"I highly recommend Jack Love as a math tutor for young students. His ability to tailor lessons to each student's unique learning style ensures they not only grasp key mathematical concepts but also develop a genuine interest in the subject. Jack introduces creative problem-solving approaches beyond traditional school methods, helping students gain a deeper, more flexible understanding and appreciation of mathematics."

Testimonials

"On behalf of our entire AWM team, thank you so much for helping us with the Centerville HS visit yesterday. We asked the participants to fill out feedback forms and many said it was a highlight of the tour. Hope some of them will get inspired to pursue a mathematics career!"

—Maria, Association for Women in Mathematics

-------------

"Thanks so much for your program this evening! I had a parent stop me after you left to ask if you were here every week. Her son really enjoyed it!"

—Laura, Chinn Park Regional Library

-------------

"Kylie came home after the class COMPLETELY excited and had so much to tell me about how she felt like she was truly learning outside the box. It was challenging and she had to think outside her comfort zone. She absolutely loved it."

Background

As Outreach Director for Mason Experimental Geometry Lab, I delivered over

200 presentations

at over

100 locations

including schools, libraries, and STEM events, reaching over

7000 students.

As a founding co-director of San Francisco Math Circle Summer Camp, I helped run summer math enrichment programs for elementary through high school students from 2013 to 2017.

I have since branched off on my own and developed an interactive presentation I call "Making Space: The Mathematics of Higher Dimensions" that I am currently offering for free to middle and high school classrooms.

Offerings
title slide

Age range: middle school to high school and adult

Running time: 60 minutes

Description: Making Space is an interactive presentation that puts higher dimensions on solid ground by connecting them with familiar ideas from algebra and geometry.

Students and teachers get to place their standard curriculum in a larger mathematical context and discover new pathways of understanding and intuition.

Participants come away with a drawing of a 4-dimensional cube they made themselves.
