For me the main strength of StackoverflowStack Overflow is the fact that correct answers "float" to the top,. I only ever downvote if I think that the answer is impeding a correct answer floating above it.

FWIW, I never downvote any answer to a question that I have also answered,answered; it seems wrong somehow, even though itsit's probably not...
