Here is the situation: GraduatedI graduated from university with a CScomputer science degree (BSc), having done some C, C++, Java, Python, and Oracle along the way. I did some PHP freelancing while I was at uniuniversity and carried this on into a full time job afterwhen I left.graduated, and I've been working full time for around a year now.
PHP is notisn't really not what I want to do, and I think it's limiting my abilities and opportunities the morelonger I follow thatstay along this path. It's not a language I also wantlike to use on a daily basis, and I would like to work in a larger organisationorganization, you don't find these usingwhere it doesn't seem PHP. Also I can't stand programming in such a poorly designed language every day has much use.
I like working withwant to stay in web applicationsdevelopment, and there seemseems to be plenty of jobs around for the Microsoft stack: C#, SQL Server, and ASP.NET MVC. Aside from halfBut beyond a half semester writing common-line C++ (command prompt) in visual studioVisual Studio, I have no experience with Microsoft toolstechnology.
Where do I begin learning which will leadstart to make the transition to landing a job. Certificates (MCAD in a Microsoft shop?) Are there any specific certifications I should be focusing on, C#/ASPor university courses. I should be taking? What doare employers or head hunters wantrecruiters looking for?
Edit Hoping to get a few more responses on this one. What can I do besides creating a pet project in my spare time?
Edit I've since found a job that is split PHP and ASP Webforms work. I've actually found it easier than I expected to pick up C#. The employer wanted to know more about my comp sci skills than specific MS skills. Getting a certificate would probably have been a waste of time for me, I'm glad I didn't go down that road.
