    The sentence “$(...) binds tighter than "..."” doesn't make sense. They aren't infix operators, and there's no hierarchy between them (if there was then it would mean that either quotes can't be inside parentheses or parentheses can't be inside quotes, but that's not the case). The technical term is that $(…) and "…" nest. Commented Jun 14, 2016 at 20:26
