I haven't had to do it, but taking a page from my DOS batch file playbook, there's always ping, eg 0.3 seconds:
ping -i 0.3 127.0.0.1 -c 2 > /dev/null
(2, because the first ping happens right away)
edit: or like the guy below, sleep 0.3 works better. :)
