Christmas Present Arrived Today
This review may be premature as I have only had this machine a few hours as of this writing. However, I researched many, many stand mixers and the one thing I noticed, regardless to what you look at there is someone who has a horror story about any mixer you consider. So, I decided to go with the KA because it is what I owned and lasted 30+ years. Now, we KNOW things are not made the way they used to anymore. However, my expectations are still high for this mixer. The first one I got was the Pro 600 after considering the Artisian. But, I changed my mind and opted for the Pro7. The reason I chose this model, is the 5 year total replacement limited warranty and the DC motor. Yes, it cost more but this was my Christmas present from my husband. When he asked what I wanted, I told him a Louis Vuitton (smile). When he regained his composure and picked his jaw up from the floor, I told him I would settle for a KA mixer. He was happy to accommodate! I spent days researching, watching videos, calling people that bake a lot (hubby's family are true bakers), and reading, reading, reading. My final choice was this model. I love how quiet this model is. From what I understand, it is because of the DC motor. Noise bothers me and I would not want to listen to a mixer as loud as the AC models can be. Now, what I DON'T like! The lift bowl is nice, I understand why it is needed if you are doing a heavy batch. However, I like tilting the mixer, stirring, and scraping as that is what I am used to. I had a difficult time doing these things with the lift bowl. Yet, I believe I can get used to this method after a few cakes. Next, this is not so much an "I don't like" but, I plan to order a smaller bowl. The 7 qt capacity is way too big for a basic pound cake. The paddle mixed extremely well, all was incorporated and I did not have to stop and scrap the sides regularly, but a smaller bowl would serve well. I also plan to order the slicer/shredder. Other than those two additions, I think I will be a very happy customer. I gave the machine a 3 star for easy to use because I have only used once. However, I do like how easy it is to clean. I don't know how durable it will be but it is very, very sturdy, quiet and tough. Coming from Alabama (a southern girl), I used to always bake cakes, pies, bread, and all in between. Then, I moved to Florida and discovered Publix! So, I gave up baking. Now, retired, I've decided to began again because my husband loves homemade cakes, bread, and other stuff we don't necessarily need! Also, there is a feeling of joy and accomplishment when you bake your own. Well, that is my review! Happy Baking and do not hesitate to try this machine. You know you can always send/take back. This price is the best I have found. And don't forget the 5 year warranty! I just wanted to add, that I ordered a 5qt bowl for this mixer. For me, the only time I needed the 7 qt bowl was when making large batches of breads. The 5 qt is great for everything else. You might wonder why I did not order the 5 qt Artisian mixer. I like the quiet of this one even though it is quite pricey. Plus the 5 year warranty. Also, the paddle gets closer to the bottom without having to adjust. I will say, finding the 5qt bowl and especially the flex edge mixer blade is challenging. I was able to purchase both from Everything Kitchen even though the mixer blade is on backorder. I do notice Amazon have the flex edge paddles now with limited supply. I love this mixer and have baked 4 loaves bread, 2 cakes, and looking for something else to bake. Happy Baking!! Just to add, I also purchased the flex edge beater for use with cakes. Next, I ordered the stainless steel flat beater and as previously mentioned, the 5 qt bowl - which I LOVE. Having the smaller bowl is easier to handle. Well, off to bake again!

I made the right decision and bought the KA Pro 7

My KA Artisan mixer died while making a large batch of pizza dough. I use my mixer several times a week and decided to thoroughly research all of the top contenders. There are a few YouTube videos that helped me determine which was the best mixer for me, a person that uses the mixer for cookies, cake, muffins and some bread and pizza doughs. Since I use my mixer for things other than bread dough, I eliminated the Ankarsrum mixer as the bowl for cookies and cakes is a flexible plastic bowl, while the mixing bowl for bread dough is a stainless steel bowl. For a person that makes a lot of bread dough the Ankarsrum may have been the right investment at $699.00. I found a great video comparing the 3 Kitchen Aide Lift bowl mixers. The KA pro 5, pro6 and the pro 7 mixers. The KA Pro7 has a DC motor which is much quieter than the AC motor which the pro 5 and 6 have. I decided to bite the bullet and purchased the KA Pro 7 stand mixer. It came two days later. I’m thrilled with it. I ordered the sugar pearl silver color and it is beautiful. I made a big batch of cookies the day I got it and when I turned the motor on it was quiet. No clunky noises as others have written about. The bowl is also large enough that I was able to scrape the sides of the bowl with the motor off but without lowering the bowl. I looking forward to trying pizza dough in this machine that will be able to handle it.

    Excellent for making bread

I purchased this to primarily make bread and it works perfectly. With this in mind I planned on it being a big/heavy machine. I'm listing cons but for my purposes they're irrelevant except for bowl stacking.

I have owned a KSM7586P since May 2013 and I love it. I've mainly use it to make double batches of bread (2 or 3 dozen times since May and I'm writing this 11/15/13). My bread batches run about 5.5 - 6 lbs/batch and the mixer handles it effortlessly. I've also made numerous other baked goods and it's been outstanding. My neighbor jokes that I could use it to mix concrete.

When I ordered it I also received free pasta roller attachments. I really hadn't planned on using them but I've actually been surprised by how much homemade pasta (ravioli, spaghetti etc) I've made. It works pretty good but I still use an old ravioli press instead of the KitchainAid ravioli attachment. I also purchased the grinder which also works quite well with meat and vegetables. I'm planning on purchasing an additional stainless steel 7 qt bowl. I'd planned on purchasing one of the commercial bowls since I wanted to be able to stack the bowls (since the commercial series doesn't have a "D" handle). I contacted KitchenAid and they said the 7 qt mixing bowls aren't interchangeable between the KSM7586 Pro-Line and the KSM7990 commercial mixers.

I'm taking two weeks off over the holidays and I'm planning on using it all day every day and I have no doubt it will perform flawlessly.

Pros: Power, capacity, very quiet and attachment hub

Cons: Very big, very heavy, bowl not stackable, too large for small jobs

This KitchenAid mixer is so good that it's disappointing.

I was concerned about buying this mixer after reading all of the problems with clicking. The only clicking I heard when I first bought the mixer was related to how the paddle attached to the mixer. It was not a precise fit, meaning the small variance allowing for easy installation and removal of mixer heads is what causes the audible click. I no longer notice this noise after semi-regular use for a few months. I purposely listened for it the other day and could not hear it. I use the mixer once a week for pizza dough and then randomly for baked goods. With this, the mixer makes short work of all of my mixing needs. I was disappointed how quickly it worked because I felt like I wasn't getting enough use out of it at first. I just wanted to keep using it and make more things! If you want a machine that works so well you're sad how fast things get made, this is the machine for you. I am still excited every time I get to use my KitchenAid mixer and am sure this will last well into the future. The build quality is just as good as the early KitchenAid machines and the motor is very quiet even compared to hand mixers I've used. I hope this review helps you get what I feel is the best household mixer on the market.

I recently killed my KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer. Whipping cream. My first KA mixer was purchased in 1980, when it still carried the Hobart identifier. I used that mixer for over thirty years without a problem. Due to some changes in my living situation, I lost the mixer in 2013.

Over the next six years, I wore out two KA mixers. I’m single, 65, a lifelong baker, and am careful with my equipment. There was no reason for these past two mixers to fail, other than shoddy workmanship. When my Artisan stand mixer died last month, I went to the America’s Test Kitchen website to read stand mixer reviews. I thought that the KitchenAid line needed to be abandoned. ATK recommended the ProLine 7-quart model above other brands. It is expensive, and I live on a limited income. However, I took the plunge.

This mixer is clearly superior to the lesser models I purchased since 2013. It is a monster. One day I made several batches of cookies, two loaves of bread, and a pound of butter, using all three beating attachments (paddle, dough hook, and whisk), and the mixer didn’t get warm. The dough hook’s design is fabulous, and turns out wonderful bread.

I have no doubt that, at my age, this mixer will outlive me. If you bake even a few times a month, this mixer is for you. Save your money, and bypass the lesser brands and models. You won’t be sorry.

I bought this mixer because I read that it could handle over 8# of bread dough without a problem. I bake weekly, using approximately 8# of dough. This mixer strained under that amount from the beginning. It sounded like it was straining and get it would get warm and stinky. I also made pasta in it once, and there was no way it could knead such a dense dough. I tried to believe that the motor was working as it was meant to and that I could trust the claim that it could knead over 8# of dough. I've had the mixer for five months now, and it sounds and smells awful and has recently started leaking oil into my dough. I contacted the manufacturer, and they offered to send me a new mixer, but they will not reimburse the purchase price. I don't really want another one of these mixers, as it clearly isn't the right tool for what I want to do. I contacted the seller through amazon, and they also will not refund my money as it has been more than 30 days. Amazon website said it was too late for a refund, but after a phone call, it seems the order may qualify for Amazon’s AtoZ guarantee, so I hope that works out.

I have since read that Cooks Illustrated recommends kitchen aid mixers only if you don't do a lot of bread. Kitchen Aid now puts restrictions on their motors, telling consumers not to knead bread above speed 2 and for not longer than 4-6 minutes, therefore there are concerns about the durability of the motors. That has been consistent with my experience. i know two people personally, and have read many reviews from others, who say their old kitchen aid mixers perform much better than the new models they've tried. As of the time of this review, cook's illustrated is recommending the Ankarsrum mixer for those who do a lot of bread. it is more expensive, but it seems like the (relatively) cheaper stand mixers are really only meant for cakes and cookies. What a frustrating experience - such a waste of so much money!!

    Mostly love it, one concern.

I researched mixers for 2 months. I read everything I could, I watched videos, I talked to friends. I started out comparing the artisan with the classic. I soon realized it probably would be a better idea to go bigger because I want to be able to use it for bread multiple times a week. I compared to other brands as well. I planned to get the professional 600 as it was probably big enough and offered awesome colors. My big deciding factors came down to power, warranty and noise.

I thought kitchenaid must be a little more confident in the proline giving a 5 year warranty over a 1 year as on most other mixers, like the professional 600.

I liked that the power of the proline was measured in horsepower instead of watts. I confess I don't understand all of this part the greatest but I couldn't find information on torque for those measured in watts.

Noise. This was a hard comparison. It was hard to tell how loud or quiet they are in videos. I had read so many compliments to the proline for being so quiet and complaints about how loud the professional 600 was.

Finally I decided that these 3 things were more important than having a blue mixer and I bought the proline. I should also mention that I've never had a mixer or used one prior to this purchase.

Well about the proline. Wow. I love this thing. It's coat is nice and smooth. It is quiet. It is powerful. I love it. The only complaint is have is that when I use it, there is a clicking sound. It doesn't click if there is no food in the bowl. As soon as I put food in, it clicks. The more I put in, the more it clicks. My concern is that I read on another site about this clicking and the company said no, it shouldn't click. Send it back. When I called kitchenaid, the woman I talked to said it is normal. I didn't hear it on youtube videos. She said go to their website and look it up under troubleshooting, that it would talk about the clicking. I never found it. I can't get the kitchenaid website to work on my phone but I got to a kitchenaid site by typing kitchenaid troubleshooting into my search engine.

About the gray color in the dough from the bowl, I read many complaints so I washed it 4 times with barkeepers cleaner and then with soap and I had no problems.

I love this mixer. I am concerned about the clicking and am still trying to decide how to handle it.

About my friend with the professional 600. They were over the other day and I turned it on for her and her husband. They looked at each other with wide eyes and he told her he was upgrading her. It must be quieter.

I'm going ahead and giving this a 5 star rating because I'm sure I will get this clicking thing handled and I love everything else about it. It would be better blue but I can't dock it for that. I will try to update later about the clicking.

    Update:

The warranty only lasted 1 year and they wanted me to buy an extended warranty after owning it 9 or 10 months. If I had realized that before buying it, it would've changed my thought process. The clicking hasn't changed for better or worse and I still love the mixer. Little irritated about the warranty since that was a big part in my decision. That's why I am changing my rating to 4 stars instead of 5.
