Virginia could become the seventh state to use a new congressional map this year. A court in Virginia recently ruled that a redistricting referendum could proceed on April 21. Should voters pass it, the state can enact a new map that could flip as many as four Republican-held seats.
Two of the six states using new congressional maps this year have already selected nominees for the new districts. Up next is Ohio, on May 5.
In the Illinois primary on March 17, voters selected nominees for an unusually large number of open congressional seats. These races saw massive spending as industries like cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence spent big.
In Texas, Republican U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and state Attorney General Ken Paxton are headed to a May 26 runoff, since neither candidate dropped out by the mid-March deadline. President Donald Trump promised a runoff endorsement shortly after the primary but has yet to make one.

Elections this year

Primary voters will select nominees for U.S. Senate in 35 states, governor in 36 states and the U.S. House of Representatives in every state.

Results are reported as soon as they are available. AP’s Elections Analytics team declares winners when certain the trailing candidates no longer have a path to victory.
