Pot like a pro with this long-running champion of the pool scene. Take on rival players online as you race to clear the table, sink that black and become a legend of the baize.
Why it’s popular
You’ll never have any trouble finding a ready-and-willing opponent as you tour the pool halls of the world in 8 Ball Pool. Unlocking new destinations means bespoke tables, a new selection of in-game prizes and different variations on the rules.
While the fundamentals of the game – pot as many balls as you can – remain constant, there’s plenty of ways to play. As well as taking on other wannabe pool sharks in one-on-one matches, you can challenge friends to a game (both online and on a single device in Pass n’ Play mode) or, if you really want to prove you’ve got the hustle, enter knockout tournaments. The 9 Ball variant, in which you have to target the lowest-numbered ball on the table, ups the skill level, while the solo Quick Fire allows you to test your pocketing skills against the clock.
Getting started
8 Ball Pool’s controls are so intuitive and easy to use that you can dive into a contest with minimal training. It really is as simple as pointing your cue in the right direction and applying the right amount of power to land the ball in the pocket.
As your skill level improves, however, you can add extra nuance to your game. Once you’re confident with your angles and cannons, you can add spin to your shots, or – if you really want to show off – switch off the helpful guidelines indicating where a ball is going to go once it’s been struck by the cue ball.
You may also want to purchase a fancy new cue to improve your control the next time you take a shot. Some of them look pretty stylish, too.

Did you know?
There are regular themed seasons and events in 8 Ball Pool, in which you’re invited to play on special tables and pick up limited-edition cues and avatars for your player profile. Previous destinations have included the Old West and Ancient Rome.
