Ecopoesia
Description: Ecopoesia.com aims at bringing ecologically oriented poetry by distinguished Latin Americans, often scattered across many venues and untranslated, to the attention of both academic and general audiences. As a research and pedagogical tool, this online resource features biographical notes, critical commentaries, bibliographies, and a generous selection of poems, both in the original as well as in translation. We showcase established figures such as Homero Aridjis, Ernesto Cardenal, and José Emilio Pacheco, and lesser known voices, including Astrid Cabral, Leonardo Fróes, and Sérgio Medeiros, highlighting their unique environmental visions. Ecopoesia.com is the result of a research project led by Professor Odile Cisneros in collaboration with a team of research computing analysts* and students** and at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. A trilingual (Spanish, Portuguese, English) online resource mapping the relationships between contemporary Latin American poetry and the environment, this website is intended both for general readers of poetry as well as for students and researchers in the areas of environment and literature. The resource’s digital platform allows for different ways of mapping texts. Beyond the traditional “author/work” format, readers will be able to create digitals maps of poetry focusing on abstract concepts (man and the cosmos, hum[an]imal, vegetal life, etc.) or specific topics (pollution, endangered species, indigenous ecological knowledge). Through links to actual maps, images and sounds, it will encourage readers to link poetry to place, text to geography.

Alberta Kartonera
Description: In 2001, when a severe financial crisis hit Latin America, cardboard recyclers known as cartoneros took to the streets to survive. In solidarity, artists and writers purchased the cardboard and created affordable and sustainable books with unique handcrafted covers. This website is dedicated to the University of Alberta’s Bruce Peel Special Collections’ exceptional Cartonera books collection. At its heart, this site celebrates the innovative spirit of the cartoneros and cartoneras—men and women cardboard recyclers who transformed crisis into art in Latin America. With a spotlight on the distinctive Brazilian titles housed within, our aim is to educate visitors about the rich tapestry of the Cartonera movement and the resilience of the cartoneros.

Community Translation Resources
Description: The website communitytranslationresources.org was created as part of the research project “Empowering Communities through Translation: The Case of the Newcomers’ Guide to Edmonton” conducted by a team of scholars at the University of Alberta in collaboration with the City of Edmonton. Intended for local and regional community translators as well as public sector employees, this website provides not only a wealth of translation resources and tools in a variety of languages (Amharic, Arabic, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Ukrainian), but also links to workshops, forums, trainings and contact details of translation service providers. The purpose is to to assist community translators in their work, to encourage interactions between translators, and to facilitate the use of community translation services by administrators.

Description: The Suśruta Project is undertaking detailed work reading and transcribing the new manuscripts, evaluating their relationships and translating their content. The the newly-discovered manuscripts of The Compendium of Sushruta is being put into a historical relationship with each other and with previously-known manuscripts using traditional historical and philological methods coupled with the methods of computerized cladistic analysis. The latter methods will allow fine control over the expected large volume of differential data between the manuscripts. The goal is to develop a fresh understanding of ancient South Asian medicine based on the new evidence.

Description: APERSU (Alberta PROMs and EQ-5D Research and Support Unit) is an intermediary office that connects the EuroQol Foundation with non-commercial users of EQ-5D instruments and other patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in the province of Alberta, Canada. APERSU offers many services including registering and licensing the use of EQ-5D instruments, as well as supporting research and use of EQ-5D and other patient reported outcome measures in Alberta. APERSU was developed in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA), and the EuroQol Foundation, and is hosted at the School of Public Health, University of Alberta.
