Hello, I am wondering about downloading large files in http and wondering how I go about getting https://archive.org/details/MESS_0.149_CHD_psx
Since it's 230gb and the average speed isn't great, is my only option to leave my computer and browser open for weeks? I am new here so my apologies if I am missing something obvious.

Never use a browser for large file downloads unless you have to. They tend to suck for this purpose. I don't know what OS you're using, but a dedicated command-line tool like wget is much more robust. It allows you to resume partial downloads, so you can shut down and resume later, and you can see the exact size in bytes of the file you're downloading.

A problem with this site is the apparent lack of any checksums (to verify downloads) or any way to repair them, so if you finished that 230 GB download and suspected it was corrupted, there would be nothing you could do except download again. I asked about this in https://archive.org/post/1006731/how-to-verify-or-repair-downloads but didn't get any responses to my actual question (the only responses were unrelated).

Checksums are provided for all files, look in the _files.xml file for the item

Also, you don’t have to download it all in one go. IA servers allow you to resume the download. So you could download a part, pause the download for weeks, and come back to download some more. And as others said, use dedicated download managers, not Web browsers.
