From regional cooperation to national guidelines: Donau Soja contributes to climate adaptation guidance 📍From 21 to 23 September 2026, Donau Soja participated in the final workshop on the development of the Guidelines for adapting Serbian agriculture to climate change, held in Šabac, Serbia. Earlier this year, Donau Soja worked with stakeholders and expert working groups to develop a Regional Action Plan (RAP) for the future of soya production in the Balkans under changing climate conditions. 🌱 The plan is currently being finalised. We are very happy, since its recommendations on adapting soya production to climate change were reflected in the Serbian national guidelines. This connects regional cooperation with national policy guidance and strengthens the relevance of our work across the Balkans. At the workshop, Emilija Stefanovic from Donau Soja also presented regional work on the future of soya production in the Balkans and highlighted the importance of cooperation between value-chain actors, public authorities and partners across the region. 🤝 ➡️ The future of agriculture depends on the action we take today. One plant. Many possibilities. 🌱 This autumn, the Soya Superbean campaign continues! We’re returning to Austrian eggs as a practical example of why feed origin matters. ⬇️ Soya provides important protein for animals and people. As a legume, it also adds diversity to crop rotations and can support soil health. What our hens eat matters: The origin of the soya in their feed and how it is grown can influence the climate impact of eggs. According to a study by BOKU Vienna, eggs from hens fed with soya certified to the Europe Soya Standard have a 40% lower CO2 footprint compared with an average EU egg. The Europe Soya Standard covers non-GM soya from Europe and supply chains without deforestation. It also sets clear requirements for origin and cultivation. ⏰Reminder: EmpCo comes into force tomorrow ‼️ – Europe Soya Standard is compliant ✅ 📅From 27 September 2026, the EU Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition Directive, known as EmpCo, will apply. The new rules strengthen requirements for environmental claims and sustainability labels. For companies using the Europe Soya Standard, the key message is simple: ➡️Our Europe Soya Standard is compliant with EmpCo requirements. An external legal assessment confirms that the standard meets the relevant requirements. It is based on: • Non-GM soya • European origin • Deforestation- and land-use-change-free production • Sustainable production – requirements for soil, water, biodiversity and social standards • Independent third-party verification The standard also provides publicly available criteria, traceability throughout the supply chain and clear consequences for non-compliance. ✅ Companies using the Europe Soya label can therefore continue to communicate with confidence. 🌍 Today on 25 September, the SDG Flag Day reminds us that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are not only global ambitions. They also require practical steps in the fields, farms and supply chains that feed us. At Donau Soja, we work with farmers, processors, retailers, researchers, policymakers and other partners across Europe to support a sustainable, safe and European protein supply. 🤝 This includes: - Growing more European, deforestation-free and non-GM soya - Protecting soil, water and biodiversity - Strengthening traceable and regional supply chains - Helping reduce Europe’s dependence on global imports – all verified by the Europe Soya Standard. ✅ Agriculture connects many of the SDGs – from climate action and responsible consumption to decent work and life on land. ➡️Progress depends on turning shared goals into concrete choices, standards and cooperation across the value chain. Today, we want to say thank you to the supporters of the Protein Partnership Programme over the past years! 💚 International retailers including Lidl International Lidl in Germany, Kaufland, REWE International AG and Coop have worked intensively to reduce their soya carbon footprint while supporting sustainable, non-GM soya production in Europe and for Europe. 🤝 🌱 Through Protein Partnerships, their support helps farmers and first collectors meet the requirements of the Europe Soya Standard – including certification, quality testing, training and knowledge exchange. Together, these partnerships have contributed to the production of around 2.8 million tonnes of certified soya – produced without deforestation or land-use change. 💪 This means: - More sustainable soya production in Europe - Stronger regional value chains - Better market access for farmers - More certified soya available to European buyers 🌍 Protein Partnerships show how retailers and other companies can support change and help build a more resilient European protein supply for their own value chains and beyond.
