  • IEEE Quantum Week was held last week (13th-18th September) and FLiQC PhD Student: Soumyadip Das attended to present two posters that he co-authored with fellow researchers, including his supervisor, FLiQC Chief Investigator Prof. Jingbo Wang! With more than 2,300 participants at this conference, Das had the opportunity to receive valuable feedback on the posters, alongside connecting with international quantum computing researchers, including Reuben Demirdjian and Mykhaylo Z., who are working on differential equations and nonlinear dynamics, topics closely related to Das' PhD research. Das told us about two memorable industry keynotes: Quantinuum's talk on QUOPS, a new framework for comparing the computational performance of different quantum architectures, and Xanadu presenting its roadmap for scalable photonic quantum computing. Congratulations Das! What a great achievement! 👏 #Quantum #QuantumComputing

  • Our scholarship round is now open! (Closing 8th October) We currently have three exciting research projects on offer. One of them is a project that will be supervised by FLiQC's Director Prof. Stephen Bartlett, and Dr. Dominic Williamson of the University of Sydney node. This project would be ideal for a candidate who is motivated in constructing practical 'self-correcting quantum memories'. Through FLiQC's embedded 12-month industry placement, students gain direct industry experience alongside their research. Partnered with Sygaldry Technologies, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to innovation at the intersection of quantum computing and AI. If this sounds like a project you are interested in, explore more on the Sydney Quantum Academy's website: https://lnkd.in/gBT2J8zx Think someone in your network would thrive in this project? Share this opportunity with them. #QuantumOpportunity #Quantum #STEMOpportunity

📖 New Publication Congratulations to FLiQC Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Ryan Mann, who has published 'Fast Algorithms for Stoquastic Spin Systems'. This research advances quantum's understanding of efficient algorithms for analysing complex quantum systems and their computational properties. 👏

I'm pleased to have finished this paper on fast algorithms for stoquastic spin systems at high temperature. The algorithms run in expected near-linear time for sampling in the spin basis and near-quadratic time for counting. https://lnkd.in/gDH9rpbX

  • 💡PhD Spotlight: Meet Aruna Sathyanarayanan Balaprabhavathi Project title: Coupling electron and hole spin qubits in silicon Chief Investigator: Prof. Alexander Hamilton Industry Partner: Diraq Aruna completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Physics at the University of Sydney, where her passion for physics, first sparked in high school, continued to grow. During her undergraduate studies, she had the opportunity to work in several of USyd’s quantum laboratories, gaining hands-on experience that strengthened her interest in the field and her ambition to pursue a career in quantum research. As Aruna explains, “especially at a time when universities, companies, and governments are working closely together to push the boundaries of quantum technology, I believe the blended experience offered by FLiQC will be invaluable in helping me navigate this rapidly evolving field and grow as a researcher.” Now in the early stages of her PhD, Aruna is beginning to immerse herself in her research. She has been spending time in the lab, shadowing members of her research group, learning about ongoing experiments, and developing her understanding of the techniques involved. Alongside this, she has been engaging with relevant literature and discussing key papers with her team, laying a strong foundation for the work ahead.
