Classic Build service no longer supported
As announced in 2021, “expo build
” has reached its planned sunset in 2023
On November 24, 2021, we published “expo build’s Final Year” — outlining our plan to sunset the expo build
service in favor of its successor, EAS Build.
SDK 47 in November 2022 was the first SDK that did not include support for Classic Builds. Today, the sunset date of January 4, 2023, has arrived, and accordingly we have begun to shut down the service.
If you haven’t used expo build
recently (or ever before), you will not be able to run any builds on the Classic Build service. We have provided a short grace period for apps that have used the service very recently, and we encourage you to migrate to EAS Build as soon as you can. If you are a Production or Enterprise plan subscriber and you need a bit more time to migrate, you can reach out through our support form to request a brief, one-time extension.
You can continue to use turtle-cli
for SDK 46 builds and lower for as long as that works for you, but we will no longer be offering any support for this tool.
We think you’ll be amazed at what you can do with EAS Build when you migrate from expo build
! You can create development builds that include any native code; you can write your own native modules in Swift and Kotlin; your app size will be much smaller compared to expo build
(we’ve seen reductions up to 10x); you can take advantage of workflow improvements for sharing your app with internal distribution and so much more. Learn how to migrate.
