Review: 11389 Project Hail Mary

Posted by ,

At the beginning of February, LEGO revealed a set based on a new license that was completely unexpected: 11389 Project Hail Mary, inspired by the upcoming film of the same name, which is itself based on a 2021 book by writer Andy Weir.

Another of the author's books, The Martian, was turned into a successful film back in 2015. Having read and enjoyed the books, and the previous film adaptation, I was excited to learn of Project Hail Mary's screenplay and very much look forward to seeing the story come to life on the big screen.

The announcement of a LEGO version of the titular ship was a surprise, and a welcome one—but has LEGO managed to do the film (and book) justice? Those hoping to avoid spoilers for the story may wish to come back to this review once they've watched it!

Quick Look: 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan

Posted by ,

The gift with purchase at LEGO.com at the moment is 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan, the first of four restaurant sets that'll be available at various times during 2026.

In recent years similar series have been microscale which has reduced their appeal somewhat. This one, however, is minifig-scale, so is likely to be better received.

Amazon discount tracker working again

Posted by ,

Our Amazon price tracking, discounts list, and Bargain Watch page are back up and running.

I'm really sorry for the inconvenience the outage caused you. In fact, I was slightly taken aback by the number of you that contacted us, or commented, to find out what was going on: clearly it's a much-loved and useful feature.

The downtime was caused by Amazon retiring its product advertising API at the end of January and me not taking the necessary steps in time to move over to its replacement, Creators API, then going on holiday shortly afterwards.

Review: 40911 Mini Pokémon Centre

Posted by ,

Pokémon Centres are a well-known location in almost every Pokémon game. As each game has evolved, the services these establishments offer have also grown, but they’re best known for healing injured Pokémon free of charge.

Shoppers can now get their hands on this delightful model through the LEGO Insiders Reward Centre for 2500 of their hard-earned points, equivalent to about £16. Let's go take a look!

Review: 40955 Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel

Posted by ,

Exactly two years ago (on the last day of February 2024), I wrote an article highlighting the relationship that exists between the LEGO and Maersk family dynasties. My article looked at the 10241 Maersk Line Triple-E set and how it immortalised that relationship.

The LEGO Group is celebrating this next generation of Maersk Line's cutting-edge ship design with the release of the 40955 Maersk Dual-Fuel Container Vessel set.

Maersk Line's latest generation of energy-efficient and environmentally responsible ships are the new A class III ships. These ships represent the world’s first large methanol-enabled container vessels and demonstrate that Maersk Line continues their commitment to pioneering low-emissions shipping solutions.

Read on as I review the latest set and look at the multi-generational relationship that has existed between the two giant Danish companies: The Lego Group and A.P. Møller – Maersk Line.

With all the excitement around the Pokémon launch today, it was remiss of me not to mention that a new gift with purchase, 40906 Restaurants of the World: Japan, is also now available at LEGO.com.

I suspect it'll be the first of four such sets which'll be available at various times during the year. Unlike the shops, houses, and wonders series of collectables, this one is minifig scale which is likely to increase its appeal.

It's available from today until March 8th, free when you spend over €180/$180/£160. We'll be posting our review over the weekend.
