Had a blast interviewing Gareth Brennan for the launch episode of Work/Life Live, East Room's new conversation series presented by Wealthsimple Business. We talked about how he grew EVENTSCAPE from his garage to one of the most consequential design build firms on the continent, contributing to awe-inspiring projects like J.P. Morgan's New York headquarters and the recent renovation of the Rogers Centre. Thank you Derreck Martin, Kassidy Finucan, Veronica Ha, Kate Chippindale, and Christine Robson for having me—always blown away by the magic you make happen. Watch the full episode on YouTube!

Thrilled to announce the launch of Work/Life Podcast, available wherever podcasts are streamed! Our first episode features Gareth Brennan, founder and president of EVENTSCAPE, shot during the first Work/Life Live event, powered by Wealthsimple Business. During the conversation, Gareth put it simply: hit a goal, and more “stuff” usually shows up with it. The work you don’t like, the tasks that cost you sleep, the things that pull you away from what you’re good at. Growth adds weight, not just revenue, and if you try to carry it all yourself, the business stalls right when it should be moving faster. Gareth’s approach is to stay focused on your strengths and build a team that covers the rest. What drains you is often exactly what someone else enjoys, and that’s how you scale without burning out. Real stories from someone who’s been there. Tune into the new Work/Life Podcast to watch the entire conversation with Gareth, and listen wherever podcasts are streamed. https://lnkd.in/gAiH296X

After years of spotlighting leaders at the top of their game through our Work/Life series, we’ve taken those stories off the page and put them in front of our members. Welcome to Work/Life Live, an exclusive new East Room member program, powered by Wealthsimple. A rare, unfiltered look at what it actually takes to rise: the pivots nobody saw coming, the pitfalls that almost ended it all, and the breakthroughs that changed everything. No polish, no soundbites, just real stories and practical wisdom from people who’ve lived it. For our first edition, we sat down with Gareth Brennan, the mind behind EVENTSCAPE for a candid conversation on building a category-defining company: the risks, the reinvention, and the lessons learned along the way. We’re proud to bring programming like this to our members. Real access to the people, the stories, and the rooms that move your business and your career forward. Powered by Wealthsimple Business, which gives Canadian businesses chequing, investing, and group savings that actually work for them: no monthly fees, no minimum balances, and chequing that pays up to 2.25% interest. Over 30,000 Canadian businesses (agencies, design studios, doctors, farmers, at least one nuclear reactor inspector) already trust them. Learn more at wealthsimple.com/business. Thank you, Gareth, and thank you to every member who joined us. The next edition of Work/Life Live is coming soon. #eastroom

A little overdue, but some weeks ago I had the chance to hear Gareth Brennan from Eventscape speak. I left with 3 takeaways: 1. Reinvent yourself when things are still good. Gareth reinvents EVENTSCAPE every two years. When markets become crowded and margins tighten, he creates something new instead of waiting for things to get bad. 2. Enter new markets gradually. When things are going well, he starts researching the next market, learning about the audience and testing ideas before making the jump. Sketches from real artists play a big role in helping people see the vision and build trust. 3. Cater your message to the market you want. As he jumps to the next market, he adapts his website, portfolio and messaging for each new market, sometimes even removing past work that wasn’t relevant. You need to understand the audience, show them what matters to them, and make it easy for them to see themselves working with you. Thank you, Wealthsimple, East Room, Nicole Millward, MBA, Devon Bentley and Sarah Bartnicka for putting together a fantastic event!

When we wanted furniture for our Billy Bishop pop-up, our pals at East Room came through with the best-looking and most comfortable pieces any airport on earth, probably, has ever seen.

Our latest Work Redux 037: Ludo is live now on East Room's Soundcloud. Listen to the mix and read the story via the link below. With an enviable mane and a steady pair of hands, Ludo’s presence behind the decks is a relief to any partygoer. A staple fixture on the Toronto DJ scene, Ludo is one half of the duo Immigrant Muscle and a resident DJ at venues such as Goodnight Cocktail Club and 416 Snackbar.
