Women are building companies, managing portfolios, and generating returns. That expertise should also shape where capital goes and how investment decisions are made. The51 member Gisele Delente Wilson, CFA, Founder and Managing Director of Coriel, now part of Corient, makes a clear case for women to recognize their ability to build the table, set it, and invite others to it. Her perspective raises a bigger question: What can we create when we see ourselves as the people who convene, invest, and set direction? 🤔 Building our own table means putting our experience to work. It means identifying opportunities, backing businesses, and deciding who we bring into the conversation. The opportunity extends beyond individual success. Every table we build can give more women a role in shaping what gets funded and what gets built. At The51, this is a conversation about ownership, investment, and the decisions that shape our economy. Gisele’s message is a direct invitation to take part. 👇 Join us in Atlantic Canada to continue the conversation. 📍 St. John's & Halifax 🗓️ November 3 - 6 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e5JPVJuh #InvestInWomen #WomenInVentureCapital #VentureCapital

On October 1, The51 is bringing together women across health, business, and venture in Toronto to explore one of the most consequential opportunities in healthcare. 📅 Thursday, October 1 | 6:00–8:30 PM EST 📍 Women’s College Hospital | 76 Grenville St, Toronto Women’s health is more than a healthcare opportunity, it’s economic infrastructure, shaping workforce participation, career progression, caregiving, income, and long-term wealth creation. And while the global market for core women’s health and major adjacent conditions is projected to exceed $600B by 2030, it remains significantly undercapitalized relative to the scale of demand. The evening will bring together founders, investors, and leaders for connection and conversation, including a founder discussion on overlooked health needs, scalable businesses, and new approaches to care, technology, and distribution. Joining the conversation: → Jackie Hanson, Co-Founder & CEO, Sprout Family → Lindsay Stollery Jephcott, Co-Founder, Lume Women + Health → Christy Prada, CEO, Future Fertility → Fiona Lake Waslander, CEO & Co-Founder, Coral → Shelley Kuipers, Co-Founder & CEO, The51 Join us to connect with the people building, funding, and shaping what’s next in women’s health. A Wild win. Two Calgary leaders who know what it takes to build. And 15 founders from across Canada ready to put the next nine weeks to work. Here's a few highlights from a big weekend in Calgary: ⮕ The51 Community came together to cheer Calgary Wild FC to a win. ⮕ CEO Lara Murphy joined us pitch-side to share what it takes to build a new professional women’s soccer team from the ground up, and how Calgary’s community has helped build belief and momentum around the Wild. ⮕ CHARCUT co-founder Connie DeSousa shared how community helped turn an ambitious idea into a restaurant business that now spans 10 locations. ⮕ We welcomed 15 founders from across Canada to Movement51's fall Founder Lab cohort. ⮕ Founder Lab kicked off with practical sessions led by Jason Thompson, Kristen McGill, Patricia Koyich, MAGL, Shelley Kuipers, Courtney Dragani, Brad Andrews, Nadia Lachman, Anita Ruohio (Ludwar), Teslim Ogundiran & Carrie Fanai. 💡 There’s a reason we brought these experiences together. The founders entering Founder Lab are building companies of their own. Hearing directly from leaders like Lara and Connie puts the realities of building into context: strong businesses aren’t built on ambition alone. They’re built by making good decisions, developing the right relationships, accessing expertise, mobilizing capital, and knowing how to turn those resources into growth. That’s where Founder Lab goes next. 👇 Over the next nine weeks, these founders will sharpen their fundraising strategies, strengthen their capital readiness, build investor relationships, and make more informed decisions about how they grow their companies. This is what it looks like to make a network matter: bringing experience, relationships, expertise, and capital together, and putting them to work behind ambitious founders. Thank you to Calgary Wild FC, Lara Murphy, Connie DeSousa and CHARCUT, and the founders, investors, members, partners, and Champions in Residence who joined us. 👏 Emily McBride, Courtney Dragani, Kulwant Duhra, Shelley Kuipers, Judy Fairburn

Canada is at a pivotal moment. As the country sets an ambitious growth agenda and looks to attract the investment required to build our economic future, we have an enormous source of economic capacity that cannot be left on the sidelines: women. The51 is proud to join The Power Shift, a coalition of women leaders calling for the full participation of women in Canada’s growth agenda. For us, unlocking women’s economic power means expanding who owns capital. Who allocates it. Who builds and scales companies. And who sits in the positions of leadership that shape the industries, technologies and institutions defining our future. This isn’t simply a question of representation. It’s a question of economic capacity. Canada has an opportunity to build a more ambitious, competitive and prosperous economy. Realizing that ambition means ensuring women are fully participating in—and helping lead—the decisions about where capital goes, what gets built and who benefits from the growth that follows. Thank you to The Power Shift for bringing these voices together at such an important moment for Canada. Read the open letter below. 👇 Shelley Kuipers, Nyla Ahmad, Judy Fairburn, Alice Reimer, Courtney Dragani, Lauren Robinson
‼️ Read our Open Letter to Prime Minister Mark Carney about the Canada Investment Summit: 💸 "As we pursue these ambitions, Canada is leaving economic capacity untapped by failing to fully engage women. Canada is diversifying its trading relationships and seeking to build more, move faster and compete in increasingly volatile geopolitical conditions, even as persistent labour and skills shortages constrain our capacity to grow. With the government aiming to catalyze $1 trillion in investment over five years, Canada has an enormous opportunity to translate that capital into greater productivity, stronger industries and lasting economic growth. 🦾 Building a Canada Strong economy means making full use of the talent, capital and entrepreneurial capacity of Canadians, including the millions of women who remain underrepresented in the sectors driving our growth." 📢 Signed by: Nancy Peckford Velma McColl Ilse Treurnicht Emily Feairs Frédérique Tsai-Klassen Erica Rayment Elizabeth McCallion Victoria Lennox, MSM Mitzie Hunter Sophie Gupta Shelley Kuipers Dr. Sherry Shannon-Vanstone, MSc, Honorary LL.D, ICD.D Sonya Shorey Priya Tandon Kaylie Tiessen Julie Savard-Shaw Tanya van Biesen @ann elizabeth samson Sarah Young Nyla Ahmad #canadainvestmentsummit #cdnpoli #womeninwealth #wherearethewomen

At The51, we believe some of the most meaningful conversations about investing happen when we create space to think differently. Our retreat with Laura Harris was an opportunity to do exactly that, to step outside the usual rooms and routines, create alongside one another, and explore the connection between art, investing and conviction. Because investing is about more than capital. It’s about what we choose to believe in, the futures we’re willing to help build, and the people we bring alongside us in doing so. Shelley Kuipers shares a personal reflection on what this experience left her thinking about, and why artists and investors may have more in common than we think. A perspective worth sitting with ↓ https://lnkd.in/eg43W4Bw
This isn’t quite the reflection I expected to write about our retreat in Victoria. But then again, the weekend didn’t unfold quite as we expected either. Earlier this summer, The51 brought together a group of women at the home and studio of artist Laura Harris to paint, connect, and explore the intersection of art and investing. On the morning our retreat began, Laura needed to step away to be with her family. She left us in the care of her extraordinary community, and with a note. In it, she shared an idea I haven’t stopped thinking about since: artists and investors have more in common than we might think. Both ask us to believe in something that does not yet exist. Both involve risk, uncertainty and optimism. And both require us to move forward before we know exactly how things are going to work out. Three days in front of blank canvases made that connection feel much more tangible. The best investing isn’t only about evaluating what already exists. It’s also about developing conviction in what could exist, and deciding whether you’re willing to help make it real. I wrote a little more about the weekend, what happened when things didn’t go according to plan, and what the experience left me thinking about. Laura Harris, thank you for opening your home, your studio and your world to us. Read the full piece → https://lnkd.in/g2MRyphM Nyla Ahmad Alice Reimer
