Amanda Kenny shared thisChatting with Bruce Cole ✨ If you know Bruce, you know what a treat it is to spend time with him — especially when it’s discussing my favourite topic: Merchandising. 🐝 Thank you to Bruce and the team for having me! Bruce W. Cole In Conversation With Bruce W. ColeAmanda Kenny shared thisGetting your product onto the shelf is only half the battle. What happens next can determine whether a brand actually grows. Our latest episode of In Conversation With Bruce W. Cole is now live, featuring Amanda Kenny, Founder and Chief Merchandiser at Hive Retail Solutions. Amanda joins Bruce W. Cole to break down what really drives store-level velocity, from protecting shelf space and executing promotions to choosing the right distribution strategy and understanding what’s actually happening inside the store. They also dive into the mistakes emerging brands make when scaling too quickly, why going “narrow and deep” can be more effective than chasing thousands of doors, and the small details at shelf that can have a big impact on product movement. Amanda Kenny reposted thisAmanda Kenny reposted thisIf you’re going to CHFA NOW Toronto, come join me for this one. 👀🔥 On September 25th, I’ll be stepping away from building the displays and actually talking about why we build them the way we do. I’m excited to be joining an incredible panel for The Power of Merchandising, where we’ll be talking about what actually makes a shopper stop, look and ultimately buy. For me, merchandising has never been about simply putting more product on the floor. It’s about creating something people can’t walk past without noticing. Big displays. Floor graphics. Theatre. Simplicity. Execution. And most importantly — does it actually move product? I’m looking forward to sharing some of what I’ve learned along the way — and hearing the perspectives of some incredible people in our industry. CHFA NOW Toronto – Exhibition Place 📅 Friday, September 25th ⏰ 10:15–11:15 AM If you’re attending CHFA NOW, I’d love to see you in the room. Amanda Kenny shared thisYour product may have 3 seconds to stop a shopper. Chris Siabanis refuses to waste them. At Longo’s, Chris grew the Mega Display Program across this epic banner The program now creates 32 custom displays every month across dry and refrigerated categories. Those numbers are impressive. The thinking behind them is why I wanted Chris on this panel. A shopper enters the store with a list and a routine. Chris’s job is to interrupt both without making the display difficult to understand. He has used floor graphics that lead shoppers into a display, oversized school lockers to make “What’s for dinner?” impossible to miss and brand assets large enough to recognize from across the store. Big is not the idea. Clear enough to understand in seconds is THE idea. Chris’s work has earned 4 Joe Longo Sr. Awards for Creativity, the 2025 CHFA Excellence in Retail Award and a place in Longo’s Hall of Fame. If your product has ever been technically available and practically invisible, Chris is one reason to be in this room. Amanda Kenny shared thisEvery new product asks a retailer to change something. Add a shelf. Move a category. Make room. Take a risk. Peter Weicker decides which changes make Fortinos more valuable to its customers and which ones simply make the store busier. Fortinos is 65 years old. Its customers now want value, convenience, local products, multicultural assortment, restaurant-style meals and something new to discover. Preferably without giving up the quality and service they already trust. Peter leads Fortinos banner performance across sales, merchandising, operations and profitability. So when a founder presents an exciting new product, Peter can see the entire store that has to support it. 💥 That is why having Peter as part of this panel is so incredibly special. The question is not only, “Is this a good product?” It is, “Does this help the retailer keep its promise to the customer?” If you want to understand what your one product looks like to someone responsible for the whole banner, Peter is one reason to be in this room. We are incredibly proud to share that our President and Co-Founder, Ian Walker, has been named the recipient of the 2026 CHFA Leadership Award. This year marks Ian’s 30th year at the helm of Left Coast Naturals, and what a journey those three decades have been. It started in 1996 with Skeet & Ike’s—making nut butters in borrowed kitchens, selling at local markets, and delivering products out of the back of a car. From there came Left Coast Organics and Hippie Snacks. A commitment to organic and natural foods before they became mainstream. Becoming one of Canada’s early B Corp businesses. And ultimately, growing Left Coast Naturals from its Western Canadian roots into the national distributor we are today. Through every chapter, Ian has remained remarkably consistent in what matters most: building a good business with good people, doing things differently when there’s a better way, and helping move this industry forward. Thirty years later, there are brands on shelves, businesses built, careers shaped, relationships spanning decades, and a natural products industry that Ian has helped make a little better along the way. Ian, we couldn’t be prouder. Congratulations on an incredibly well-deserved CHFA Leadership Award. 💚 Here’s to 30 years of doing business differently—and to whatever comes next. Amanda Kenny reacted on thisAmanda Kenny reacted on thisFor a long time, being self-employed was at the core of my identity. I often wondered what it would take for me to go in-house. When I started consulting for Good Protein in 2021, I had no inkling that the answer would be “protein shakes” — most of what I did revolved around fashion. What started off as helping them build newsletter flows and a tone voice evolved into helping with a rebrand. Over the last few years, not only have I ended up spending more time working on Good Protein than other projects — I’ve wanted to. Since the rebrand and launching at retail two years ago, Good Protein has become one of Canada’s fastest-growing CPG brands. In the last few months, we’ve swung for the fences: a ready-to-drink bottled Plant-Based Protein Shake in July, which became the best-selling bottled protein shake in some of the largest retailers across Canada; candy-like Clear Protein + Electrolytes in August, which sold out not once, but twice; a Peanut Butter & Jelly 32g High Protein Shake in September; and, now, an Apple Crumble All-in-One Shake. Amidst all of that, not only did we roll out our first OOH campaigns, we attempted to build what the Good Protein universe should feel like IRL, debuting a new booth at CHFA in Toronto — and winning the award for best large booth. It was my first time at CHFA and it underscored that what it took to make me go in-house was working with incredibly talented and driven people on things that impact real people, in real ways, in real life. It’s something hundreds of thousands of people reach for on the shelves of more than 5,000 grocery stores, pharmacies and health food stores — from Costco and Walmart to Sobeys and family-owned shops, in addition to the tens of thousands of Canadians who have subscription boxes delivered right to their doorstep every month. Thanks Edward Lalonde for trusting me and letting me be part of this. Katrine Heim, thanks for introducing me to Edward back in 2021.

Amanda Kenny reacted on thisAmanda Kenny reacted on thisI recently saw a photo of myself from the year I spent in Peru. It was nine years ago. I had that moment of thinking, “Jaysus, I look like a baby.” Then I realised I would probably have thought the same thing back then about a photo from my twenties. Yesterday, I told a couple of men I share an office with that it was my birthday today. When they asked, I told them I’ll be forty-three. They both smiled and said, “You’re still so young.” They’re both in their mid-fifties. Today, I was speaking with an older friend of mine, who is in his mid-seventies. He was talking about how much closer he now feels to the end of his life. Some of his friends and family had passed recently so it was more than understandable. When I shared these musings with him, we wondered whether, if he reaches his mid-eighties, he might look back on his mid-seventies as a time when he was still so young. There is a lot of talk about ageing in this world. Not much of it, I find, is particularly healthy or natural. I’ve been going grey since I was twenty-one, so it’s never been something I’ve paid much attention to. Whatever age you are now, it might be more helpful to simply appreciate the life force and energy you have today. Because one day, you may look back on this exact moment with envy, remembering how young you were – while in reality, at every passing decade, you were busy lamenting the relative absence of youth.

Amanda Kenny liked thisAmanda Kenny liked thisI've spent years helping founders tell their stories, while believing mine didn't belong on a stage. 3 years ago, I started a business in a new city. Last year, I set a goal to give 1 keynote this year. At the Canadian Health Food Association, that dream came true. You showed up to listen to a story I' had questioned whether I should tell. I haven't fully processed that yet. Thank you to you who came and listened. And to the people who believed I belonged on that stage before I did. Here’s a crazy big dream for next year, I want to do 10 keynotes.

This a concerning number, more than 4000 restaurant closures (after taking into account 3000 openings in Canada) - so, 7000 closures...... How can we help our restauranteurs keep their doors open and our industry healthy? Next is to understand why the closures???
