Steve Hollingsworth shared thisThis past Friday I said goodbye to some pretty phenomenal people. After 11 years at Loblaw, Friday was my last day with the company. It has most definitely been a journey building the corporate strategy team, developing an aspirational retail concept in Nutshell, learning the possibilities in natural foods, and for the last 6+ years developing and launching new businesses for Shoppers Drug Mart at Loblaw Digital. There are so many people that have helped me along the way and I can’t thank them enough for going on the journey with me and caring enough to challenge, question, prod and provide feedback with the goal of always getting better. LD is in a great place with amazingly talented people and leaders from top to bottom. They will continue to push the company forward building new products and services to make the lives of all Canadians a little easier. I can’t wait to see what they do next! And for me, the next chapter starts tomorrow… #PressureIsaPrivilege #ApathyIsNotaPerformanceEnhancer #AllKillerNoFiller #ForwardNeverStraight #NextChapter

Steve Hollingsworth shared thisBig thank you to Max Greenwood and the Digital Magazine team for highlighting a huge milestone in the Shoppers Drug Mart digital journey! While I was the fortunate one that had the opportunity to speak with Max, I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some (there are many more) of the wonderful people that were involved in making this a reality. It takes a village and here are some of the product, tech, trading and design folks that made this happen. The process was anything but straightforward, though—with an inventory that includes electronics, luxury beauty products, and more, Shoppers is forging one of the most unique e-commerce experiences in North America. #ecommerce #retailnews "The reality is, once we launch, that’s when the real learning starts. This is another huge milestone and a huge step forward in terms of value propositions, but we view this as the starting line," says Steve Hollingsworth, senior director of e-commerce for Shoppers Drug Mart.

Steve Hollingsworth liked thisSteve Hollingsworth liked thisThree days of AI at Groceryshop, and the conversation I keep coming back to wasn't about AI at all. I spent most of the show in 1:1s with grocery leaders. Most were already sold on what AI could do for execution. The harder question was how it works across teams who each see a different piece of the problem. Execution falls between functions. Merchandising sets the plan, supply chain ships against it, stores carry it out. Each team owns its piece and nobody owns whether the three line up. The same problem can usually be solved from more than one direction. A slow SKU might be a store replenishment call, a DC redistribution, or a price change. All three are reasonable. Which one is right depends on context none of those teams can see on their own. That's what we built Thri5 to do. It finds the opportunity, puts a value on it, and works out who can have the biggest impact on it right now, then gives every team the same version of the truth and makes completion visible. Every action gets an owner, and everyone can see it got done. Thanks to everyone who made time to talk. The appetite to go after this is real.

Steve Hollingsworth liked thisSteve Hollingsworth liked thisToday was a wonderful day spent planting more than 1,000 white pine and red pine seedlings throughout the Davis Drive Tract in York Regional Forest with the York Region (The Regional Municipality of York) Forestry Team! 🌱 My little family had such a great time taking part. We planted 14 trees, my son is feeling very proud, and my daughter hasn’t had any issues napping or going to bed since. While 14 may seem small compared to the 1,000+ seedlings expected to be planted today, every little bit helps. A huge thank you to the friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate staff who took the time to educate and support all of the volunteers and families who came out. We were also lucky that the weather held up for the event! Thank you to Pamela Martin, Julia Reale, Kelly Mingram, David Thompson, Rainer Dinkelmann, Marcus Chatelaine, Peter Louws, Keenan Brine, Krishna Selvakumar, Janice Lam, Alexandra Joynt, Cassandra Cain, and Kyle Heeley. Special thanks to “Auntie” Dayna Laxton M.Sc., and Jordan Cornish for taking the time to speak with everyone about invasive species and how they’re affecting our local ecosystem. 🪳 Proud to support another meaningful initiative in our Region and right in our neighbours’ backyard, alongside the Greater Stouffville Chamber, Joe Lyons-Rising. Steve Hollingsworth liked thisSteve Hollingsworth liked thisI’m excited to make my next career chapter "LinkedIn official", joining three incredibly talented women at the newly created Pattern & Path Consulting (formerly heads up). Together with Meghan Nameth, CM, Gagan Sharma CAIP, and Heather Crawley, we’re building a team that helps companies find and drive sustainable growth by grounding decisions in real human behaviour. We’re bringing what we've learned across industries and functions to help organizations truly move from insight to action. That means not just understanding their consumers better but translating that understanding into clear plans so teams can move seamlessly and quickly to execution. Returning to my consulting roots feels right, and even more so because I get to do it alongside smart, driven, and deeply experienced thought leaders who make up a true powerhouse team. If you’re looking to unlock new growth or want to better ground your work in your consumer, we’d love to chat.

And in some really great news - Canadian retailer Aritzia has acquired the Fred Segal #IP and plans are underway to revive the original flagship location on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles as part of its broader U.S. expansion strategy. The acquisition marks a notable move by Aritzia beyond its core apparel business into owning a legacy retail name and leveraging it as a destination experience in a key global market.

Thanks @6ixretail and Dustin Fuhs for including my insights in this piece on Wayfair's strategic expansion of its loyalty program into Canada. In a market where consumers already juggle multiple loyalty memberships, Wayfair's success will hinge on closing these integration gaps and demonstrating immediate value against established players.

Loblaw’s CEO has confirmed what many front-line retailers have been feeling: some Canadian shoppers who switched to domestic products during tariff tensions are now drifting back to U.S. brands as price gaps reopen. For health, grocery, and supplement retailers, this is more than a grocery headline. It is the next phase of a very real tension between values and value. Over the past two years, many banners have: Tilted assortments toward Canadian-made products Built marketing around “Buy Canadian” and local stories Used origin as a key differentiator against mass and online Now the questions get tougher: Where will customers trade principle for price Which categories can sustain a premium for Canadian-made How should U.S. brands be curated without undermining your local story In our latest feature for IHRmagazine.com, we unpack: What Loblaw’s comment signals about consumer behaviour Why health and supplement categories are particularly exposed How to move from simple patriotism to a layered value proposition that combines Canadian origin, clinical proof, clean labels, and sustainability How to reintroduce or defend U.S. brands strategically rather than reactively If you lead a banner, category, or brand in health and wellness, this is the moment to rethink your “Canadian first” strategy before the next policy shock or price wave hits. Read the full article on IHRmagazine.com and feel free to share how you are navigating this shift in your own business.
