  • 🎥 The 4 Questions Every Founder Must Answer Before Raising Capital Before you ever sit down with an investor, you need real answers to: 1️⃣ Why do you need to raise? 2️⃣ Who are you actually asking? 3️⃣ When do you need the money? 4️⃣ What will it be used for? Vague answers here are where negotiations fall apart. In this lesson, we walk through how to work backwards from your long-term goal, IPO, acquisition, market leadership, to define specific dates and amounts investors will actually take seriously. This is one of 12 free lessons in our Pre-Seed Fundraising series, built for founders outside Ontario and Canada who want in on the Capital Connect Program. ▶️ Watch the free content and start your investment journey: https://lnkd.in/euFFmrQt #Fundraising #PreSeed #StartupFinance #CapitalConnect

  • 🎯 Most founders skip straight to "how much do I need" without answering the question underneath it: what are you actually building toward? Dreaming of an IPO? Aiming for acquisition? Trying to go head-to-head with the big players? All valid. But here's the part people forget: however big the dream, you owe your investors a return at some point. Work backwards from where you're headed, then answer: why you're raising, who you're asking, when you need it, and what it's for. 🎥 Full breakdown tomorrow. #PreSeed #StartupFunding #FounderTips #CapitalConnect

  • 🔜 Coming next week: The 4 Questions Every Founder Must Answer Before Raising Capital. Before you ever step into an investor meeting, you need real answers to: 1️⃣ Why do you need to raise? 2️⃣ Who are you actually asking? 3️⃣ When do you need the money? 4️⃣ What will it actually be used for? No vague answers, no mumbling through a term sheet meeting. Just clarity. 🎬 30-second preview drops next Thursday. • 🎥 Pre-Seed, Seed, or Series A? How to know which round you're actually at. One of the most common mistakes we see: founders with no fundraising history trying to jump straight to Series A or C because they have sales or time in market. It doesn't work that way, every round has to be earned. In this video, you'll learn: ✅ How to tell which round your company is really ready for ✅ Why pre-seed is typically under $1M (often $250K-$500K) ✅ Why there's no universal "right amount", it depends on your specific runway and next milestone ✅ How timelines between rounds should look (hint: 6 months is too fast, 3 years is too slow) ✅ Why round sizes differ by region, but the discipline behind raising them doesn't This is one of 12 free lessons in our Pre-Seed Fundraising series, built for founders outside Ontario and Canada who want in on the Capital Connect Program. ▶️ Watch the free content and start your investment journey: https://lnkd.in/euFFmrQt #Fundraising #PreSeed #StartupFinance #CapitalConnect

  • 💳 Here's a mental model that changes how founders think about their first raise: Asking for your first round of funding is like asking for your first credit card. If you've never had one before, the bank isn't giving you a $1M limit, they're starting you at $1,000-$2,000 until you build trust. Investment rounds work the same way. If you've never raised before, pre-seed is your starting point, not Series A, even if you already have sales or time in market. Know where you actually stand before you ask. 🎥 Full video drops tomorrow. #PreSeed #StartupFunding #FounderTips #CapitalConnect

  • 📊 Pre-money vs. post-money valuation: these aren't two numbers competing for accuracy. They describe your company's value at two different moments, before an investor's money lands, and after. Mixing them up is one of the most common mistakes founders make when reading a term sheet or negotiating a SAFE. In this free video lesson, you'll learn: ✅ What pre-money valuation actually means ✅ What post-money valuation actually means ✅ Why neither one is "better", they just answer different questions ✅ How to convert between the two, so a term sheet never catches you off guard This is one lesson from our Pre-Seed Fundraising training. The full training (SAFEs, convertible notes, cap tables, negotiation) plus our Capital Connect Program are both live on our Investment page. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eS4Sx3Ex Capital Connect's waiting list is open now, join founders getting ready to raise with real clarity, not guesswork. #Fundraising #StartupFinance #PreSeed #CapitalConnect #FounderEducation

  • 🔑 One reason founders don't get a cheque in their first round: they lack clarity on what comes after it. Nobody expects you to have a crystal ball. But investors do expect a plan, including how you eventually exit, and why that makes sense not just for you, but for their return. That kind of clarity rarely comes from you and your team thinking it through alone. It comes from people who've been through the process before, who know how to anticipate hard questions and avoid unnecessary damage in meetings with investors. 💬 Founders: have you thought through your exit story yet, or is it still a blank page? #Fundraising #StartupStrategy #FounderAdvice #CapitalConnect

  • ⏳ Reality check for founders: raising your first round typically takes 6+ months, and that's when your company is already in good shape, clean paperwork, solid projections, a clear story. Go in unprepared, and that timeline stretches even further. Preparation isn't a delay tactic, it's what actually speeds up the process. Investors move faster when founders make it easy to say yes. 👇 Founders, what's one thing you wish you'd prepared earlier before starting your raise? #StartupTips #Fundraising #FounderAdvice #CapitalConnect

  • 🌱 Big news for underrepresented cleantech founders in Canada: Toronto's BlackTech Capital just launched its Catalyst fund, targeting $2M CAD (with a $500K first close already secured) to back early-stage cleantech companies led by founders who've historically been overlooked by venture capital. The fund lets individual investors get involved with cheques as low as $10,000, and BTC has already backed four companies, including a solid oxide fuel cell startup and an EV-charging robot company. This is exactly the kind of capital shift we love to see, more accessible entry points, more overlooked founders getting real support. 👏 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gPBrB3qN #Cleantech #VentureCapital #DiversityInTech #CanadianStartups
