Art Basel and UBS have launched a new five-part film series exploring how technology is reshaping art today. The first episode tackles a fundamental question: What is art in the digital era? Digital art did not begin with NFTs, artificial intelligence, or even the internet. Artists have been experimenting with computers and code since the 1960s, extending a much longer history of using new technologies to make and think about art. Today, those practices encompass everything from generative systems and artificial intelligence to immersive environments and decentralized networks. Episode 1 of Decoding Art in the Digital Era traces this evolution, positioning digital art within a much longer history of artists adopting and responding to new technologies. Looking across six decades of experimentation, the episode shows how digital tools have challenged established ideas of what art can be, while reflecting a culture in which technology increasingly shapes how we communicate, create, and experience the world.

Thrilled to welcome Nicole Sales Giles to the team!
Some exciting news: I've joined Art Basel as the Global Head of Zero 10. I'll be leading Zero 10's strategic direction and growth as a year-round global platform, with a focus on deepening engagement across the art and technology communities and creating new commercial opportunities for artists, galleries, collectors, institutions, and brands to connect with this space. In this role, I'm able to continue supporting artists who are experimenting with the most innovative technologies of our time, and to help give their work a larger stage. I'm particularly looking forward to talking with brands and companies interested in building meaningful partnerships with the art of this (and next) generation, whether through programming, creative collaborations, or larger strategic initiatives. If you have thoughts on Zero 10, an idea for working together, or just want to talk about where art is heading, please send me a message. Id love to hear from you.
