\$\begingroup\$ Huh, I've just noticed my code has a terrible bug - the best set of genes makes 95 copies of itself every generation instead of one. (I had thought it was odd that it converged so quickly with populations of 10000 but I couldn't see the bug before.) I'm running a slightly improved version with the bug fixed - let's see if it reaches a better score. \$\endgroup\$
