The Aurora Watch are the guards and soldiers of the Kryn Dynasty, led by Dusk Captain Quana Kryn.

Description[]

The Aurora Watch are the Kryn Dynasty's soldiers and guards.[3] They act as police officers and guards for official buildings, including the Marble Tomes Conservatory and the Lucid Bastion,[4] and for the city gates of Rosohna.[5] They also patrol the main road through the Ghostlands to kill the errant spirits there.[6][7]

A small red sash that goes over one shoulder and then dangles across the front of the armor seems to denote officer status.[8]

Fines and punishments for crimes against soldiers of the Aurora Watch are doubled.[9]

History[]

In Bazzoxan, which is under martial law, Aurora Watch soldiers under the command of Taskhand Verin Thelyss keep the peace.[10] During an expedition into the abandoned temples there, a group of Aurora Watch soldiers found a Vestige of Divergence, the Kiss of the Changebringer.[11]

Campaign Two and contemporary events[]

During the War of Ash and Light, around the time of "The Endless Burrows" (2x50), the Aurora Watch numbered about 21,600 legionnaires: around 3,300 stationed in and around Rosohna, 13,200 across the other cities of the Dynasty, and 5,100 in various locations throughout the Underdark of Wildemount.[2] Around the outskirts of Asarius alone, a growing army that included about 4,000 Aurora Watch trained for upcoming battles with the Dwendalian Empire, while captains of the Aurora Watch enforced the laws of the city.[12] By contrast, a mere small platoon of Aurora Watch under Taskhand Durth Mirimm struggled to keep a lid on the rough-and-tumble city of Jigow.[13]

When the Mighty Nein arrived at the Deepriver Mining Camp, there were about fourteen Aurora Watch soldiers stationed there.[14] Upon the Nein's return to Rosohna, the Bright Queen Leylas Kryn sent two Aurora Watch to deliver their reward for giving information about the upcoming meeting at the Overcrow Apothecary.[15]

Most of the population of Bazzoxan seemed to consist of Aurora Watch soldiers,[16] whose task is to deal with any fiendish creatures that wander past the gates or the tower guarding the tunnels the village is built on.[17] There was also a group of Aurora Watch guarding the Aeorian outpost supervised by Essek Thelyss when the Mighty Nein met him in Eiselcross, notably archers and crossbowmen.[18]

After the war, the Aurora Watch under Taskhand Mirimm continued to guard Jigow[19] and Taskhand Thelyss continued to lead the forces at Bazzoxan.[20] The roads between were also patrolled by Aurora Watch.[21]

The Tales of Exandria: The Bright Queen[]

The Aurora Watch confirmed a sixth beacon in a gnome settlement in the Ghostlands. When Dusk Captain Quana Kryn and the Watch met with their contact, however, they were betrayed and attacked. The soldiers were killed, and despite Leylas's efforts, Quana was abducted.[22]

  • The design of their armor, insectile in appearance and that chirps like a cricket as the wind blows through it,[29] is the origin of "crick", the derogatory slur that the Dwendalian Empire uses against the Kryn Dynasty.[30]
