What would make someone leave Latin America to fight in a distant war? 🎙️ The new podcast "Call Sign Condor" follows Latin American volunteers who traveled thousands of miles to join Ukraine's armed forces, exploring the experiences, motivations and personal journeys behind their decisions. Hosted by DW correspondent Carolina Chimoy and produced in collaboration with LA Times Studios and Futuro Studios, the series draws on Carolina's years of reporting and rare access to tell a little-known story of war, identity, belonging and purpose. Two evenings. Two cities. One important conversation. As part of the Beethovenfest Campus Project events in Bonn and Berlin, audiences experienced not only outstanding musical performances, but also joined a discussion on media freedom, independent journalism and cultural life in Georgia ahead of a concert featuring young musicians from Germany and Georgia. Panelists, from Georgian artists and cultural practitioners in exile to DW journalists with deep knowledge of the region, shared their perspectives on media, culture and public discourse in Georgia. Who owns the news? Unter dem Titel "Who owns the news? Journalismus im Zeitalter der KI" diskutieren unter anderem Julia Becker (Verlegerin und Aufsichtsratsvorsitzende der FUNKE Mediengruppe), Prof. Dr. Martin Senftleben (Direktor des Instituts für Informationsrecht an der Universität Amsterdam), Joerg Heidrich (Rechtsanwalt und Fachanwalt für IT-Recht) und Lutz Mache (Government Affairs and Public Policy Senior Manager bei Google) über die Zukunft journalistischer Inhalte im KI-Zeitalter. 📅 5.

#DWAmbassador #media #journalism

How can young people navigate an online world where misinformation spreads faster than ever? 🌐 Across Central and Southeastern Europe, young audiences are confronted with a constant stream of misleading and false information online. Reaching them with topics that matter to them, in their own language and on the platforms they use, is more important than ever. ✅ With #DWfactattack, DW's Fact Check team and DW's Romanian and Hungarian services are working together to strengthen media literacy among young audiences. Through short, engaging videos, young hosts in Romania and Hungary investigate claims circulating online, explain fact-checking methods, and help their peers develop a critical approach to information. How do we make that work across languages and countries? Joscha Weber, Head of DW Fact Check, and Aida Sofić Salihbegović, Coordinating editor, DW Programs for Europe, introduce the initiative and discuss how Fact Attack empowers young people to navigate today's information landscape with confidence. ➡️ You can find the fact checks on TikTok (DW Romana) and Facebook (DW Magyar).

DW stands in solidarity with CNN, Politico and MS NOW which have been denied access to the White House. Independent journalism requires free and equal access to public institutions. Restricting media access on the basis of reporting sends a troubling signal for press freedom and risks reducing the diversity of perspectives available to the public. For this reason, DW will temporarily refrain from using White House-produced photo and video material distributed through official channels on its German and English platforms. We remain committed to press freedom, media pluralism and independent journalism worldwide. ➡️ Our full statement: https://lnkd.in/eq2J-iud
