The report also looks at other emerging risks, including more frequent wildfires and the potential spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria. Today, the financial impact remains limited, reflecting factors such as widespread public healthcare coverage and diversification across products and risks. EIOPA has just published an update on the progress made so far and on the steps we will take to continue reducing unnecessary complexity across #insurance and occupational #pensions. Some examples of what has already been done: 📉 26% less quarterly reporting and 30% less annual reporting for solo undertakings under the revised Solvency II framework 📋 25 sets of Guidelines reviewed and shortened by around a third ⚖️ more proportionality through a new framework under Solvency II 🔄 more use of existing data, avoiding new reporting where possible ⚠️ more efficient stress testing, with less frequent bottom-up exercises and stronger top-down analysis 🤝 simpler coordination through a streamlined internal working group structure And the work continues — from more digital-friendly reporting and better sequencing of legislative requirements to stronger coordination between supervisors. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 ➡️ reduce unnecessary complexity while preserving financial stability, consumer protection and effective supervision. A cyber incident that threatens financial stability requires more than individual responses, it requires effective coordination among supervisors. Earlier this week, the institutions involved in the Systemic Cyber Incident Coordination Framework (EU-SCICF) came together in Frankfurt to put the framework to the test in a simulated cyber crisis exercise and incorporate the lessons learned into how we respond to future crises. EU-SCICF helps financial sector institutions coordinate their response when a cyber incident poses a risk to the stability of the European financial sector 🏢Thank you to the European Systemic Risk Board for hosting us, and to all participants for their valuable contributions. 🔗 More about the framework : https://lnkd.in/eS4PjMj9

🏢Being a trainee at EIOPA offers many perks. Gaining real workplace experience, learning from mentors, contributing to projects that support the European financial system are the most obvious ones. The networking experience with the major financial institutions in Frankfurt is a less known and equally valuable experience we are offering. The Frankfurt Trainees Network that EIOPA is steering does just that: it allows EIOPA trainees to meet their colleagues working at the Deutsche Bundesbank, the European Central Bank and Bafin, share their experiences and learn about the many opportunities the ecosystem in Frankfurt has to offer. This week, the Frankfurt Trainees Network gathered for a special event at the Geldmuseum. They got to learn about the work of the Bundesbank, the digital euro and speak about future career opportunities. A big thank you to the Deutsche Bundesbank for hosting this gathering, and to everyone who joined. #FrankfurtTraineesNetwork #EIOPA #Frankfurt Susanne Rosenbaum Dr. Andreas Kaun Luca Loiero

Despite persistent geopolitical tensions and market volatility, the EU financial system continues to demonstrate solid fundamentals across banks, insurers, pension funds and investment funds. In her State of the Union address today, President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the low coverage of only around 25% of catastrophe losses in Europe by private insurance and called for greater action to address the protection gap. Taking action to reduce this gap is a key priority for EIOPA. Stronger insurance coverage can help protect citizens, businesses and governments from the growing economic impact of natural catastrophes. EIOPA stands ready to contribute with practical tools and solutions to the new framework for climate resilience from the European Commission. #SOTEU #SOTEU2026 Photo credit: EC - Audiovisual Service
