The owner–operator tension in Hospitality isn’t new. But it is becoming far more structural. Across Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific, a clear pattern is emerging: ▪️ Owners are more active ▪️ Operators are more accountable ▪️ Leadership expectations are fundamentally changing And here’s the real shift: Hotel performance is no longer operator-driven. It is alignment-driven. In the latest edition of our LinkedIn Newsletter “Connecting Leaders”, we explore why this tension is increasing, where it plays out across regions — and why the General Manager role is quietly becoming one of the most strategic positions in Hospitality. We hope you enjoy the read.

Many hospitality leadership searches start in the wrong place: with a résumé rather than a business outcome. Two senior executives can have spent 15 years with the same hotel brand and still perform very differently once the surrounding infrastructure, systems and resources are removed. Experience tells us where someone has worked. Capability tells us what they can deliver in a new environment. At LHC International, we believe a senior executive search should start by defining the business outcome a leadership appointment needs to deliver. Only then can we assess the capabilities required - and determine which experience is genuinely relevant. So, what should owners and investors look for when hiring senior hospitality executives? 👉 Strategic judgment 👉 Commercial thinking 👉 Stakeholder management 👉 Learning agility 👉 Resilience 👉 Cultural leadership 👉 Ability to influence change In our latest article, we explore why capability can be a stronger predictor of executive success than experience alone - and what this means for senior executive search in hospitality. 🎉 10 years ago today, Nadine Diolulu walked into the LHC International office for the very first time. Nadine and Garry first met in the courtyard of Soho House Berlin, where they were introduced by its former General Manager. Garry’s first impression? “She seems cool.” Ten years later, it is safe to say that this was quite an understatement. It is almost impossible to sum up everything Nadine has done for LHC International since then. She has built and rebuilt teams, guided us through crises, growth and restructuring, moved offices with our Berlin team, and helped open and establish new offices . Nadine leads with empathy, honesty and clarity. She always stands behind her team, knows when to support or challenge and brings out the best in the people around her. 🤝 She also remembers every tiny detail, including (occasionally) the ones the rest of us might prefer she had forgotten 😅 And she is an exceptional sales person, even though she would probably never describe herself that way. A special appreciation must also go to her ability to embrace Garry's many ideas and navigate the constant evolution of a growing business – somehow always making it all feel manageable. Thank you, Nadine, for 10 years of leadership, loyalty, resilience, humour and everything you have built with us. We could not imagine the LHC International story without you. 🥂

A very worthwhile day at attending The Boutique Assembly with Nisakorn S. in Bangkok, Thailand. Owners, investors, developers, designers, operators and hospitality leaders came together to discuss where boutique and independent hotels go next. A few observations: Boutique hospitality is attracting more attention. Today’s travellers are looking for properties with stories. As demand grows, so does the pressure to increase distribution and reach more customers. This is where the balance becomes challenages. More distribution can bring stronger visibility, lower acquisition costs and access to new markets, but the wrong channels or partnerships can dilute the positioning, reduce flexibility and make a unique property start to look like everything else. For owners, the question is not simply independent or branded. It is about choosing the structure that fits the asset, destination, target guest and long-term plan. A brand can bring systems, financing confidence, loyalty and distribution. Independence brings speed, flexibility and the freedom to respond to local demand. Both have value. Both have a cost. There is a common perception that boutique hotels need heritage architecture or striking design to stand out. A historic building can be a strong starting point, but history alone is not the identity. The strongest properties turn architecture, culture and location into a clear story and a genuine sense of place. That story must then be carried consistently through the design, service, F&B, guest experience and commercial decisions. Luxury is also becoming less about the obvious. It is not only the room rate, star rating or how much has been spent on the building. Increasingly, luxury is time, freedom, privacy, personalisation and emotional connection. For owners in emerging markets, this creates more decisions. How far to grow. Which distribution channels to use. Whether to remain independent, join a soft brand or work with a global operator. How to improve returns without losing the soul of the property. Boutique is not a room count. Luxury is not a label. A beautiful story is not enough on its own. The right leaders make it real. They protect the identity, build the culture, lead the team and turn an idea into a sustainable business. At LHC International, we are ready to be part of this ecosystem, supporting property owners and hospitality businesses by connecting them with senior leaders who can guide positive growth without losing what makes each property unique. #TheBoutiqueAssembly #LHCInternational #Executivesearch #LuxuryHospitality Sanjog Modgil Julie Ockerby
