Jan 11, 2023 at 15:40 comment added JimmyJames One aspect that you don't mention here is that losses in the system (e.g. heating voids in the walls or an unfinished basement) are greater when the temperature is higher. And the pump(s) are not working as hard to move the same amount of water when the system is full. Consider a siphon: it won't start if there's too much air at the top.
