Add topicSummer Hello!
[edit]Hi Grand'mere Eugene, hope you're having a great summer in the PNW! We're having quite the tropical summer down here in Socal. I have a few sandboxes I'm working on and would appreciate your opinion on them. Would you be open if I tagged you on the sandboxes I drafted content?--Chefmikesf (talk) 22:17, 18 August 2026 (UTC)
- Sure!
- Summer here has been warm, but mostly tolerable. At least it cools off at night... Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 23:22, 18 August 2026 (UTC)
- Good to hear! We are lucky with the cool nights, something I was reminded of on a recent visit to the East Coast to see family.
- Starting with the shortest sandbox, I posted two suggested sentences with some 19th- and 20th-century historical updates to the talk page on Orthopedic surgery.
- Second, continuing our history work on General Dynamics, I finished a suggested History 1980-present post on the talk page. I'd love to hear your thoughts, though it will take more time to review and discuss.
- Always a pleasure,
- --Chefmikesf (talk) 15:07, 19 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help @Grand'mere Eugene. I have one more sandbox that will help remove a banner from the Minimally invasive spine surgery Wikipedia article. I recently worked up a sandbox for a medical topic article that has a citation banner. Here is the diff before and after addressing all the referencing issues and missing content.
- If it makes more sense, I can post it to the article talk page too.--Chefmikesf (talk) 18:09, 10 September 2026 (UTC)
Done — I've especially double-checked the references, as I thought there was an error on ref#3, listing the page as "e7180". But error flag is missing from the latest version... go figure! I did find and correct one duplicate reference. Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 03:16, 11 September 2026 (UTC)
Request for an independent opinion on sources for a Greek artist biography
[edit]Hello Grand'mere Eugene,
I hope you don't mind my contacting you. I came across your work on biographies and visual artists, and I saw that you are also involved with Articles for Creation. I thought you might be a good person to ask for an independent opinion.
My interest in this matter concerns the Greek painter Giorgos Pol. Ioannidis (born 1956). A previous English draft went through several AfC reviews and was eventually deleted under G11.
A conflict-of-interest concern was raised during the review of the previous draft. I want to be clear that I reject any suggestion that my contributions were paid or promotional editing. However, I have no wish to continue that disagreement. I have therefore decided not to make another attempt to recreate the article myself and would prefer to ask an experienced editor to look at the sources independently.
My purpose is not to preserve the old draft or any particular version of it. I simply want to know whether the independent sources are enough to support an English Wikipedia biography. If they are, even a short, neutral and carefully sourced article would be more than enough.
There is a standalone biographical entry on Ioannidis in the four-volume Lexicon of Greek Artists (Melissa, Athens, 1997), as well as coverage in Greek newspapers and periodicals. Some of the most relevant sources are in Greek and are not available online. I have scans and full bibliographic details and can provide them if you would like to see them.
There is also an article about Ioannidis on the Greek Wikipedia. I mention it only because it may be useful for finding biographical information and Greek-language references, not as evidence of notability on the English Wikipedia.
If you have the time and would be willing to take a look, I would be very grateful for your independent opinion. Of course, I would respect your conclusion either way.
Thank you for your time,
Anastasia CuratorArchive (talk) 12:06, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hello Anastasia CuratorArchive,
- Thanks for your note and invitation to examine sourcing for a Giorgos Pol. Ioannidis article.
- Here's the short list that we use to define minimal WP sourcing requirements: at least 3 independent, secondary, verifiable, reliable sources.
- You mentioned a "biographical entry on Ioannidis in the four-volume Lexicon of Greek Artists", which sounds like it may meet all those criteria.
- Second, the Greek Wikipedia article (in translation) appears to cite some online articles that could meet the criteria.
- Third, there are two pieces online from The Greek Foundation, here and here the are sources meeting the above criteria.
- If you draft he Giorgos Pol. Ioannidis biography again, I'm willing to review and offer comments. — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 07:27, 9 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for taking the time to look into this, and especially for identifying the two pieces from The Greek Foundation. Your explanation of the sourcing requirements is very helpful.
- Before the previous draft was deleted, we had already reduced it considerably and arrived at a much shorter version, written as neutrally as possible and carefully referenced. I have kept a copy of that final version.
- Would it be useful if I provided that final version to you, together with a scan of the standalone entry in the Lexicon of Greek Artists (Melissa, Athens, 1997)? I thought it might give us a concrete starting point for discussion, so that you could look at the actual text and sources and tell me what you think should be kept, removed, changed or rewritten before I create anything again on Wikipedia.
- I am not attached to the wording or structure of the previous draft. My main concern is simply to make sure that any new version is concise, neutral and based only on sources that meet the criteria you described.
- Thank you again for being willing to help.
- Anastasia
