I've heard this as well, and it is the best counterpart to "dude" I can think of.Caleb– Caleb2011-04-02 18:26:37 +00:00Commented Apr 2, 2011 at 18:26

1I find this the best sounding so far, but it sounds very nuyorican. But maybe we should just start using it. Or stick with dudette (a web search gives this as thee most popular answer), but to me sounds every time like a neologism.Mitch– Mitch2011-04-03 14:41:03 +00:00Commented Apr 3, 2011 at 14:41

For the sake of clarity, chica is Spanish for "young girl" rather than "female friend". In particular, there is no connotation of friendship whatsoever in chica to a Spaniard's ears. I am aware this may be different elsewhere. Just for the record.CesarGon– CesarGon2012-01-30 14:39:04 +00:00Commented Jan 30, 2012 at 14:39

1It's not necessarily a bad word, but I don't recall ever hearing someone use "chica" to address a woman. At least in places I've lived -- mostly in New York, Ohio, and Michigan -- it is not a word in anything remotely resembling common use.Jay– Jay2014-03-05 14:41:25 +00:00Commented Mar 5, 2014 at 14:41

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- Review existing tags and read their descriptions to learn when they should be used.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. single-word-requests), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
