- A few weeks ago, around thirty farmers from different parts of Europe visited Viñas del Vero to see firsthand how renewable energy is being implemented in the vineyard as part of the HarvREST project. It was a day to share experiences, learn from one another, and witness in the field how innovation and sustainability are increasingly going hand in hand in the sector. The initiative did not go unnoticed, and Aragón TV covered the visit, highlighting these kinds of advances that are already shaping the present, and the future, of agriculture.   #GonzálezByass #Sostenibilidad #HarvREST

  • Integration of Renewable Energy Sources (#RES) on farms offers many benefits ♻💰🌍   However, deciding how best to integrate green energy on a farm is not without its challenges. The decision is very complex with many factors to consider. To support the uptake and upscaling of RES production on farms HarvRESt project is among others working on developing:   𝐀𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭 (𝐀𝐕𝐏𝐏) Capable of running diverse scenarios and farm configurations. The tool will determine the best operational procedures for a given RES solution.   𝐀 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 (𝐃𝐒𝐒) To make recommendations of the best RES integration solutions & operation procedures for optimized production based on data from the AVPP.   🔗Learn more on www.harvrest.eu

On 26 March 2026, the HarvRESt project convened its second Visioning Policy Lab, bringing together policymakers, territorial authorities, researchers, and practitioners from across Europe. Held online, this participatory workshop focused on a central challenge for Europe’s green transition: how policy can enable the sustainable integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into agro-farming in Europe. Building on the outcomes of the first Policy Lab held in December in Brussels, this second session refined a shared vision for 2035, moving beyond innovation pilots to explore the policy conditions, governance models, and business frameworks required for systemic change. 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 ⚡ Discussions throughout the Lab converged into four interconnected pillars that participants identified as essential for policy progress: ▪️Policy making: Coherent, integrated, and territorially adapted frameworks. ▪️Viable business models: Economically sustainable farming supported by stable financial mechanisms. ▪️Cooperation across stakeholders: Trust based collaboration across sectors and governance levels. ▪️Local ownership: Community control and agency over energy and food systems. Together, these pillars reflect a shift from sector specific instruments toward integrated, place-based policy design.  Learn more here 👉 https://shorturl.at/FAbTC 👈 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 After the visioning sessions, two more steps will help the HarvRESt project build a policy roadmap for RES in farming: 👉Pathways to innovate: 📅21 May 👉Roadmap for 2025-2035: 📅11 June Building on these insights, industry actors, policymakers, territorial authorities and researchers are invited to co-build and map pathways for innovation in this field (21 May). These workshops will be consolidated into a final workshop (11 June) to define a roadmap for policy building in Europe. We hope you will join us! HarvRESt has just completed an important report exploring how hybrid renewable energy systems perform under real agricultural conditions across Europe. Rather than relying on generic assumptions, the analysis is grounded in two very different farm contexts: ▪️a large irrigated vineyard in Spain, where electricity demand is highly seasonal, and ▪️a livestock and processing farm in Norway, with more stable, year‑round energy needs. By analysing these contrasting cases side by side, the work sheds light on some often overlooked trade‑offs between technical ambition, economic performance and existing farm infrastructure.
