🧠 September 25th is World Ataxia Day, a time to raise awareness and encourage early detection. Ataxia is not a single disease, but a group of neurological disorders characterized by difficulties with balance, coordination, speech, and eye movement. Although ataxias are rare conditions, their impact on daily life and independence can be significant. Approximately 6 in 100,000 people worldwide live with a hereditary form of ataxia. Symptoms may develop gradually and can include unsteady gait, difficulties with coordination, slurred speech, and abnormal eye movement. Because these signs can be subtle at first, diagnosis is often delayed. Diagnosis relies on a combination of neurological examination, family and medical history, brain imaging, genetic testing, and other specialized assessments, depending on the type of ataxia. 🔬At Servier, we are committed to advancing research in neurology, contributing to a better understanding of complex neurological disorders and supporting the development of innovative therapeutic approaches for patients living with ataxia.
