Since Ubuntu is pushing everything on snap, AnduinOS is considering setting up it's own package management source. (Also based on apt, but a different set of software) to totally avoid it. I ack that this issue exists that thunderbird was upgraded to snap version. Currently please consider downloading it from flathub. |

Hey,
Working with AnduinOS, based on Ubuntu 25.10 Questing Qokka. Before starting with AnduinOS I made sure [for myself] no 'Snaps' would be implemented. As Canonical DOES imply snaps everywhere and does have the monopoly for the 'snap business' I now found out (in my own setup) that despite not having snapD installed, my Thunderbird WAS converted from .deb package (installed) to Snap.
In Synaptic I checked now and Thunderbird had a 150.90ESR update - snap edition - for my setup. I blocked / pinned it in Synaptic and managed to download a same version in .tar.gz which I copied over my present Thunderbird.
As Canonical / Ubuntu secretly installs snaps, even using 'sudo apt install xyz', I guess the (installing of) snap editions is 'hidden somewhere' within Questin Qokka. This because I checked but, again, snapD is NOT installed. The Canonical 'apt version tools' even install the snapd daemon if needed to install the required package [and remove de snapD once installed?]. As I don't like all this fishy business; what's the Anduin stance on this and what are guarantees NO snaps are installed with AnduinOS? ... this because Thunderbird updates here ARE snap versions! .... Please advise. Thanks.
