I already got an e-mail from GitHub Support (support@githubsupport.com):
In no event wanted I to circumvent anything - I was just under impression, when using GitHub Copilot via OpenCode, that the API communication can sort out all the underlying things GitHub needs to provide me the service. What would the authentication of 3rd party apps be good for then? |

There was a hint from OpenCode maintainer and developer Dax, who was quoting Jared Palmer (this guy: https://jaredpalmer.com/) that the official support for Copilot Auth would be coming to OpenCode - if this happens, I would imagine TOS would allow this. @eduardolat, it is only official when an official GitHub statement is announced. Currently, there is nothing available here: https://github.blog or from other sources. And from this list: anomalyco/opencode@v1.1.21...dev, I cannot see anything changed about Copilot that was already present. I am not sure what Opencode is doing here. Just opened an issue: anomalyco/opencode#8709 |

Many LLM tools now offer a "native" GitHub Copilot integration, such as Opencode (https://opencode.ai/docs/providers/#github-copilot) and Aider (https://aider.chat/docs/llms/github.html). However, many users, including myself and my company, are concerned about whether using these tools safely complies with Copilot's Terms of Service.
Discussions on this topic are ongoing, like this one: https://www.reddit.com/r/GithubCopilot/comments/1n257aa/if_you_have_gh_copilot_you_can_use_opencode_with/, but there has been no official response from the GitHub Copilot team. I believe it is time for them to make an official statement to prevent confusion.
