Hey there! We know 2FA may be a new process for some folks and with that comes questions. We put together a FAQ that will help answer your concerns above. If you still have more questions, feel free to ask them here. You will likely have to use another method besides SMS to set up 2FA! |

Hi, This is a fairly common issue and usually not your fault. GitHub’s 2FA SMS option does not support all country codes, which is why you may not see your country listed. Here’s what you can do: Use an authenticator app instead of SMS (recommended by GitHub). Apps like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy work in all countries and don’t require a phone number. If you already started the process, go back to Security → Two-factor authentication in your GitHub settings and choose “Set up using an authenticator app.” After enabling 2FA with an app, retry applying for GitHub Education — SMS is not mandatory. If you still face issues, you can contact GitHub Support and mention that your country is not supported for SMS-based 2FA. Authenticator apps are more reliable and secure than SMS, and GitHub officially recommends them, so this approach should unblock you. Hope this helps — good luck with your GitHub Education application! |
