Isaiah 63:9 — In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.
In many cases when the Angel of the Lord appears, those to whom he has appeared recognize that they have seen God (Exodus 3:2–14, Judges 13:22). The Catholics refer to this individual as the Metatron. In theology it is considered a Christophany or Theophany, meaning a physical manifestation of God, which the passage in Isaiah would appear to corroborate. The Angel of the Lord is the angel of God's presence.
