    It's probably worth noting that this is more specifically Calvinism than Protestantism in general. It's a bit ironic for Calvinists, though, since they believe that nothing you do can affect your salvation at all. Commented Mar 31, 2017 at 22:51

    An even more simplistic stereotype is that "sun on the head" makes lazy whereas the approach of the nordic winter forces people to work hard if they want to survive and prosper. This stereotype survives to this day, see discussion on Greece and people in The Netherlands and Germany suggesting that the Greek are lazy, despite all evidence to the contrary.
