IBRL: Leading the iFAB Hub in Illinois

Welcome to Our Pilot Plants
The Integrated Bioprocessing Research Lab (IBRL) and Food Science Pilot Plant are product research and development facilities that bridge the gap from basic discovery to commercialization of bioproducts.
Our facilities serve as invaluable assets to bioenergy, bioprocessing, and food science companies by partnering them with the human and equipment capabilities of the university. IBRL and the Food Science Pilot Plant provide labs and pilot plants for innovative research to market application and commercial products for industry partners. Researchers are also developing and improving technologies for next-generation biofuels and value-added products derived from biomass.

Training the Biomanufacturing Workforce
IBRL trains individuals ranging from undergraduates to career employees through a variety of programs and opportunities. Our FASTER Internship and our Professional Science Master’s give University of Illinois students hands-on training in our pilot plants. Our Short Courses provide opportunities for professionals to receive targeted, specific trainings in industry-relevant processes. IBRL is committed to preparing a skilled bio and food manufacturing workforce.
