Last week Ibec's Technology Ireland hosted the DIGITALEUROPE National Trade Association Summit. The summit served as a platform for DIGITALEUROPE - which represents over 56,000 businesses across 42 national trade associations and 120 corporations- to finalise a strategic roadmap for Europe’s digital future. Central to the discussions was a joint industry statement calling for a shift in EU policy-  moving away from adding layers of complexity and toward a framework that prioritises cutting red tape and scaling investment. Speaking at the Summit, Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director General of DIGITALEUROPE said: "Europe is already delivering on its digital ambitions, from the inauguration of Lucy- the EU's most powerful photonic quantum computer—to pioneering 6G projects. However, simplification alone is not enough. As we look toward the Irish Presidency, our message is clear: Europe must focus on two priorities- cutting and simplifying the regulatory framework while scaling investment and demand to compete globally. We count on the Irish Presidency to deliver a regulatory environment that truly supports our industrial ambitions." The summit was addressed by Frank Feighan, Minister of State for Public Procurement, Digitalisation and eGovernment. • Technology Ireland engagements in Brussels for St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ Technology Ireland was joined by members for a series of strategic engagements in Brussels last week as part of our St. Patrick’s Day programme. This was a great opportunity for Technology Ireland and members to raise the priorities of the technology sector with key EU stakeholders. Our morning kicked off with a briefing from Ambassador Cait Moran and Counsellors from the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU as well as European Commission Deputy Chief Spokesperson Olof Gill. Later, our delegation, joined by colleagues from Telecommunications Industry Ireland, held a meeting with representatives of the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the EU on various matters of digital policy and EU affairs. A central highlight was the B9+ Roundtable at the European Parliament, co-hosted by Michael McNamara MEP, focused on "Driving the Digital Omnibus Package Forward." The session brought together the European Commission, MEPs, Attachés, and the business community to discuss the EU simplification agenda. A great conclusion to the evening as we gathered for our annual reception in the European Parliament featuring contributions from President Roberta Metsola, Commissioner Michael McGrath, Seán Kelly MEP, Ireland's Permanent Representative Aingeal O'Donoghue and Ibec President Colin Hunt, CEO of AIB.  #TechnologyIreland #Ibec #Brussels #EUPolicy #StPatricksDay #EUCompetitiveness Una Fitzpatrick Austin Dowling Caroline S. • Technology Ireland welcomes the publication of Ireland's Circular Economy Strategy 2026-2028 by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment. We look forward to engaging with the Department further on its implementation.

  • Technology Ireland welcomes strong reflection of industry input in National Digital & AI Strategy 2030 Technology Ireland (TI), the Ibec association representing the technology sector, has today warmly welcomed the publication of the Government's National Digital & AI Strategy 2030. TI specifically highlighted the strategy's clear focus on delivery and its strong reflection of the extensive consultation and input provided by the technology industry. Una Fitzpatrick, Director of Technology Ireland, said: “We are heartened at the Taoiseach’s comment that ‘Digital Ireland’ will reinforce Ireland’s position as a digital leader and regulatory hub, strengthening our profile as a location for investment and a global hub for Applied AI. In our submission to the Government’s consultation, TI emphasised that a successful digital strategy requires an urgent, joined-up approach with a relentless focus on delivery. The newly published strategy sets out clear accountability mechanisms, with high-level objectives paired with precise deliverables, timelines, and designated lead departments. TI is pleased to see that several of its core recommendations have been directly incorporated into the Government's roadmap. While the National Digital & AI Strategy 2030 sets a highly ambitious and positive course, TI notes a few areas requiring further clarity and continued collaboration with the Government- specifically the implementation of online safety frameworks and the cumulative cost of regulation. Technology Ireland looks forward to working closely with the Department of the Taoiseach and all lead departments to ensure the successful implementation of this strategy, securing Ireland’s position as a global leader in the digital and AI economy. https://lnkd.in/dCESJcNk
