AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB have today announced plans to launch Zippay; a new person-to-person mobile payment service in early 2026. Zippay will be available to more than 5 million eligible customers of the three retail banks initially. An in-app service offered through the banks’ existing mobile banking apps & delivered by leading European PayTech Nexi Group. Speaking on today’s announcement Brian Hayes, Chief Executive BPFI stated: “We are delighted to join AIB, Bank of Ireland and PTSB in announcing the introduction of Zippay to the Irish market next year. Developed in response to customer feedback and demand, this will provide a quick and easy way to send and receive money or split bills with friends, family and contacts who are also Zippay users. Having listened, spoken and engaged with lots of participants at key sessions over the past week including #UKFinTechWeek in London, the #FinancialIndustryForum in Ireland and #Techhub with Enterprise Nation, I hear similar sentiments: uncertainty feels like the new normal. Inflation, geopolitical tensions, rapid technological change - it's a lot to navigate. But longer term there remain reasons for optimism. One example is how AI represents a fundamental shift in how businesses can operate, similar to the early days of the internet - this goes beyond a normal tech cycle.
