Building carbon removal infrastructure from the Global South, alongside communities, for a net-zero world

About us

We're building climate infrastructure from India, at the scale the world needs. Equilibrium is building climate infrastructure across engineered and nature-based solutions. Our projects are across biochar, agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, and mangrove restoration, guided by geospatial intelligence and technology at every step. Every project we build is rooted in integrity, backed by science, and grounded in communities. Our mission is to revive ecosystems, strengthen communities, and remove carbon at scale.

September was a busy month for us, so here's a quick look back at everything that happened. 🎖️ A second rating. Swiftgreen, our agroforestry project with GreenCollar, has earned a pre-issuance 'A' rating from Sylvera, our second. It's built with tribal farming communities across five states, who keep full ownership of everything grown on their land, and tracked end to end by our GeoAI dMRV system. https://lnkd.in/eMcXxmJu 🗽 A week in NYC. Siddhanth joined GreenCollar, Climate Asset Management, and Forest Trends Association at New York Climate Week for a panel on smallholder agroforestry. Across most of the conversations that week, one thing kept coming up: trust in delivery is what actually decides scale in carbon markets, something we build for in every project we run. https://lnkd.in/eztW--R3 📰 The story behind the work. The Better India, in partnership with Kalaari Capital, spent time with us on what it actually takes to build carbon projects that hold up. It's also where our founder talks about the decision that led him here. https://lnkd.in/dMiJRUtf 🌾 Four days at Krishi Mela 2026. Hosted by UAS Dharwad, we spent four days interacting with farming communities, showing them our biochar work and the results behind it, season on season. By the end, close to 1,500 farmers wanted to know more. More on that soon. ❤️ 95, and counting. We closed September as a team of 95, a number that will keep growing as we scale. We're building this team the same way we build our projects: with intention and purpose. The month gave us a lot to build on and October has us on the road again. There is more work ahead, and we are ready for it.

  • Last week, our founder Siddhanth spoke at Climate Week NYC on the smallholder agroforestry solutions, alongside James Schultz, Megan Reilly Cayten and Michael Jenkins. Our agroforestry project, Swiftgreen, begins with the tribal farming communities. They choose what suits their land and livelihood, and we build around that choice. Across the conversations we had that week, the room felt more pragmatic about what it actually takes to scale nature-based work than we've seen before. One theme kept coming back: delivery. In the carbon space, a promise only counts once it has been delivered, and buyers, investors and communities all need to trust that it has. At EQ, that means building with the communities we work alongside, using technology to track what is happening on the ground, being honest about what's working and what isn't, and having independent ratings confirm the results. Integrity is what keeps a carbon commitment credible over the long term. Thank you to our fellow panelists and to the Climate Week NYC team for a thoughtful conversation. #ClimateWeekNYC #Agroforestry #NatureBasedSolutions

Two for two on the A's. Swiftgreen, developed with GreenCollar, has earned a Sylvera Pre-Issuance Rating of 'A' — our second project to receive one. Across the states of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra, over 18,000 farmers are growing native and mixed-use trees and bamboo on land they've always owned, keeping full ownership of everything it yields. Every planting event is tracked through our GeoAI dMRV system, cross-validating field data, GIS and remote sensing so each one stays geo-referenced and audit-ready. That's exactly what an independent rating checks for. Two projects in, and it's still the same feeling: relief, pride, then straight back to work. Grateful to the farmers, GreenCollar, and our team building this. To read more, head to the link in comments. Our agroforestry work across central India has been built around smallholder and tribal farming communities, not retrofitting community benefit onto a model built for someone else. We’re excited to bring this work to Climate Week NYC, where Siddhanth Jayaram will be joining GreenCollar, Climate Asset Management, and Forest Trends for a panel on what it actually takes to bring smallholder farmer-led nature-based projects to investment grade. • The land is the only asset for most farmers and climate change keeps putting it at risk. So when the new plantations started taking root, or the soil started to  hold differently than it used to, it was something closer to relief. We've watched that show up in small ways: more farmers coming together, their kids running circles around the fields, neighbours stopping by just to see the same patch of ground together. That ease only comes from trust built slowly, working alongside people. It’s not something we can claim, only something we keep trying to earn, season by season. Climate action scales when farmers are at the heart of the value chain -- creating real impact on the ground while sharing in the value it generates. ⠀ That’s the opportunity Equilibrium is building around. ⠀ Crop residue is often treated as waste. But what if it could become a climate asset, while creating additional income for farmers? ⠀ By helping farmers adopt practices that improve soil health, retain carbon and reduce emissions, Equilibrium helps turn these on-ground climate actions into verified carbon credits. These credits can then be purchased by companies looking to support their climate goals -- creating a link between global demand for climate action and local livelihoods. ⠀ The model matters because the carbon market is only as meaningful as the impact it creates on the ground. Equilibrium is working to build greater trust and transparency into this ecosystem, ensuring that carbon finance can translate into tangible outcomes. ⠀ Today, the company is working with 27,000+ farmers, helping make climate action more economically viable for the communities that are often closest to its effects. From healthier soils and surviving trees to additional income for farmers, the impact is tangible. ⠀ We invested in Equilibrium at the seed stage in 2022, and it has been heartening to see the company evolve its vision into a model that brings together climate, technology and livelihoods. ⠀ We are proud to back founders who are building for a future where doing what is good for the planet can also create meaningful economic opportunity for people. ⠀ Read The Better India's story on Equilibrium's journey so far - https://lnkd.in/dMiJRUtf Siddhanth Jayaram | Sricharann Seshadri | Naresh Nagarajan | Piyush R Golecha #ClimateTech #Sustainability #Startup #Innovation

  • 27,000 farmers, 30,000 hectares, one belief: carbon removal works when done with intention. And the work as it actually happens — patient, rooted, built season after season. Our founder chose to build this from the ground up because he realised trust, not demand, was the real bottleneck. The Better India spent time understanding what that takes on the ground — soil, trust, and years of showing up. Read the story below.

What if the work farmers already do — growing trees, restoring soil, caring for their land — could also pay them? That question pulled Siddhanth Jayaram out of venture capital and into the fields. Today his Bengaluru-based initiative, Equilibrium, works with over 27,000 farmers on regenerative agriculture, agroforestry and biochar, connecting their labour to the fast-growing carbon market. The carbon world is full of demand and short on trust. Equilibrium is trying to prove that a credit can mean something real: surviving trees, restored soil, and money that actually reaches the field.
