I turned off my brain for one day. It was the best decision I made all month.
Last week was a blur. Back-to-back calls, endless emails, and barely a minute to breathe.
Then Sunday came, and my cousin, who works in Dubai and was flying back in a week, said, "Let's just go somewhere."
No big plan. Just a bike worth of excitement and two destinations we had both been wanting to see. Nelliyampathy, a quiet forest reserve in Keralam, not far from Coimbatore.
We left at 6 AM with no alarm. I woke up naturally for the first time in ages, and it felt like a small luxury.
The ride was half the magic:
■ A short stretch on the highway
■ Then winding, zig-zag roads climbing into the hills
■ Mist rolling in, rivers glinting below
By 9 AM we were in Nelliyampathy. Cool air, quiet trees, and no one in a hurry. It felt like someone had pressed a reset button on my head.
Breakfast was palampuri, vada and tea, followed by a good lunch, some rest from the scorching heat, and a chance to recharge before the final leg. Small things, but they felt like a celebration. We took photos we had been putting off for years and let the day unfold.
Then we rode to Kava Viewpoint near Palakkad for the sunset. With a long ride ahead, we stopped at Lulu Mall for lunch and a break from the heat.
Two hours later, we were back on the bike, chasing golden light. The view over the dam, with the hills fading into the distance, was worth every kilometre. I was fully present, and I can't remember the last time I could say that.
We got home tired but happy, with stories and photos that will outlast any meeting or deadline.
What that day taught me:
Not everything worth learning comes from a course or a book. Sometimes a short ride teaches you more about balance than any training session.
✅ Quality time doesn't need to be long. It needs to be intentional.
✅ Nature is more than a backdrop. For me, it works like therapy.
✅ The right company multiplies the joy.
✅ A small break can change how you show up at work.
This is also something I remind myself of at One Eyed Owl, my AI-Powered consulting business. Your brand is not built in a content calendar. It is built in real moments, real stories, and the person you are when you step away from the screen. Days like this give me more to say than any brainstorm ever could.
If your weekdays have been draining you, here's my advice: plan a short ride, a walk in nature, or a one-day trip with someone who matches your energy. Let the hills, the wind, and the peace of mind do their work.
You might come back lighter and stronger.
