Starting July 26, and running each Saturday through the end of August, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. local time (11:00–19:00 UTC), select roads were closed to cars for the city's annual Summer Streets program, with a continuous route stretching across Manhattan from the Brooklyn Bridge up to Inwood included for the first time, according to NBC New York.
On July 28, officials in Zamfara, Nigeria said abductors had slain over thirty hostages in the Banga village. TRT reported the killings occurred despite a ransom of tens of thousands of dollars being paid.
On the evening of July 27, three people were killed after a train carrying over one hundred passengers derailed and crashed in a sylvan area in southwest Germany. Several more were injured in the incident, which is still under investigation.

On July 18, Democratic Minnesota state senator Nicole Mitchell was convicted on two charges, felony first-degree burglary and possession of burglary or theft tools, stemming from a 2024 incident in which she was arrested after allegedly breaking into the home of her "estranged" stepmother in Detroit Lakes. Following her arrest, Mitchell told police that she was at the property in search of her father's ashes and other keep-sakes, though she ultimately did not use this defense during her trial.
