"What jobs can AI replace?" isn't the question that separates the leaders. The better one: What can people take on once AI handles part of the work?
The answer shows up in which companies pull ahead, which jobs grow fastest, and which roles didn't exist a few years ago. This week's edition looks at all three.
🚨 Exclusive: ServiceNow Built A Startup Inside Itself To Fight AI-Native Rivals
For two years, ServiceNow’s challengers have built their pitch around the same frustration: enterprise software takes too long to deploy, while employees increasingly expect help inside tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams rather than through another portal. Now ServiceNow is responding by building a product that looks a lot more like the startups trying to disrupt it.
🎙️ I spoke with ServiceNow Chairman and CEO Bill McDermott & President, CPO and COO Amit Zavery, to understand why the company created Flow, a conversational AI service desk built for rapid deployment without a traditional implementation project, and how ServiceNow plans to use it to reach what it calls the “Fortune 500,000.”
💬 “For too long, small and medium businesses had to choose between simplicity and scale. Flow gives them both,” McDermott told me. ServiceNow says new customers can start without upfront expense and pay based on consumption.
📌 Flow works inside Slack and Microsoft Teams, where employees can request things like password resets or application access in natural language. ServiceNow says agentic AI can complete the work or escalate it when necessary, with setup possible within a day and without CMDB migration or additional infrastructure.
💬 McDermott argues that ServiceNow’s advantage will come from turning conversations into outcomes rather than simply generating interfaces. “Anyone can vibe code a conversation. Very few can engineer an outcome,” he told me.
📌 The product was built in just three months by a small team Zavery says operated with a founder-like mandate. His instruction was simple: “You have no restrictions.” The result was effectively a startup being built inside one of enterprise software’s largest incumbents.
⚠️ AI-native competitors are attacking ServiceNow from both ends. Serval says it automates more than half of customer IT tickets. Salesforce, meanwhile, owns Slack itself, giving it a distribution advantage ServiceNow does not control.
💬“AI has now made it much easier to write code, but simply being able to write the code is not what matters,” he told me. “Knowing what to ask the system to write, and knowing whether what you are building actually makes sense, still requires you to understand what you are doing,” says Zavery.
📈The SaaS giant’s AI annual contract value has already surpassed $1 billion, and 658 customers each generate more than $5 million in annual contract value. Flow introduces a very different model: credit-card signup, consumption-based usage and potentially much smaller initial contracts.

Introducing Flow by ServiceNow, the new conversational AI service desk that can be up and running in a day.
You shouldn't have to solve the same problem twice, yet it happens to so many teams every day. Password resets, access requests, policy questions, and infrastructure provisioning come in on repeat and take time away from the work that actually moves things forward.
Here's how Flow changes that:
💬 Employees ask for help in Slack, Microsoft Teams, or email. No one has to hunt for a portal, fill out a form, or file a ticket. Flow answers then and there, and keeps a record. It’s conversations with receipts.
⚡ When a request is resolved correctly, you can automate that workflow with a single click, and the next time it comes up, Flow handles it automatically without needing a knowledge base article.
🔌 Flow connects to more than 100 tools you already use, and admins set the guardrails up front, so there's nothing to rebuild.
☕ Getting started takes one admin and no code, with no implementation project, no infrastructure, and no employee training. Coffee is optional.
