Good answer (+1). I will only add that a lawyer need not be psychotic to represent that problematic potential plaintiff. Some small-town lawyers really don't have much going on in their career and lend themselves to blatantly frivolous litigation as long as they deem it profitable in some way.Iñaki Viggers– Iñaki Viggers2019-01-23 20:17:18 +00:00Commented Jan 23, 2019 at 20:17

Obviously with this threat your offer of writing off his debt should be gone. Send him the bill, and if doesn't pay, it's the small claims court.gnasher729– gnasher7292019-01-23 22:49:00 +00:00Commented Jan 23, 2019 at 22:49

1@IñakiViggers True, if there might be some money in it, I can see some bottom feeders going for it, or at least to have something do to. It's happened many times.BlueDogRanch– BlueDogRanch2019-01-24 00:51:50 +00:00Commented Jan 24, 2019 at 0:51

1@gnasher729 That's a good point; the OP could go on somewhat of an offensive against the guy.BlueDogRanch– BlueDogRanch2019-01-24 00:52:33 +00:00Commented Jan 24, 2019 at 0:52

I agree that loss of profits is a long bow for damages. A more realistic claim would be any increase in the cost between what the OP was charging and what any new developer charged.Dale M– Dale M ♦2019-01-24 00:59:27 +00:00Commented Jan 24, 2019 at 0:59

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. united-states), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
