Which is also a great opportunity to play a harmless prank on a friend who left their laptop open, and hide all their regions. The regions are still accessible, you can still reach them by changing the region in the URL, but from the console UI perspective, they’re gone. AWS blog: https://lnkd.in/dGmpZZWY On a more serious note, for those of you who restrict regions using SCPs, this feature can significantly reduce the amount of errors and alerts you see. And this setting applies account-wide, so it affects all users in the account. So next time a friend asks you for help with AWS, ask them to run this command (after updating AWS CLI), and suddenly their console will only have the Tokyo region: aws uxc --region us-east-1 update-account-customizations --visible-regions='["ap-northeast-1"]' And when they ask what you did, just tell them: Wakaranai (分からない), which translates to “I don’t know” in Japanese.

Channy Yun (윤석찬) reacted on thisChanny Yun (윤석찬) reacted on this흠.. 커뮤니티 워싱을 멈춰주세요..ㅜㅜ 감사하게도 좋은 기회가 많이 주어져 지금까지 꽤 오랫동안 여러 커뮤니티를 오거나이징하거나 지원해올 수 있었습니다. 대단한 일이라기보다는, 기술을 나누는 자리에서 사람들이 연결되고 함께 임팩트를 만들어가는 과정이 좋아서 계속해온 것에 가깝습니다. 그 시간 동안 커뮤니티가 저에게 가르쳐준 것은 명확합니다. 커뮤니티의 본질은 소속감과 공유된 정체성이지, 거래적 관계가 아니라는 것. 그런데 오늘 발표된 한 회사의 새로운 프로그램도 그렇고, 최근 커뮤니티를 지원하는 여러 회사들의 행보를 보며 많은 생각이 들어 이 글을 쓰게 되었습니다. 혹시나 해서 드리는 말씀인데, 여기서 오해하지 않으셨으면 합니다. 회사가 커뮤니티를 통해 이익을 얻는 것 자체가 문제라고 생각하지 않습니다. 기술 생태계를 함께 키우는 일에 비즈니스 가치가 따라오는 건 자연스러운 일이니까요. 제가 점점 회의감을 느끼는 건 다른 지점입니다. 순수하게 이타적인 척하면서 가치를 추출하는 구조. 더 많은 이벤트, 더 많은 참여자, 더 많은 콘텐츠를 빌더/오거나이저에게 요구하면서 관리 부하를 전가하는 기업들이 점점 많아지고 있다는 느낌. 무상 노동의 시운전 기간을 두어 충분히 증명한 사람만 인정해주는 단계적 구조가 강화되거나 새롭게 등장하고 있다는 것. 물론 이건 제가 보는 관점일 뿐이고, 그렇지 않은 회사가 훨씬 더 많습니다. 하지만 열정적인 개인이 기업의 이익을 위해 무기한으로 무상 노동을 제공할 것이라는 기대가 점점 당연시되고 있는 것은 아닌지, 돌아볼 필요가 있다고 생각합니다. 솔직히 말하자면, 최근 몇년간 제가 가장 많이 하는 생각은 이겁니다. 언제부턴가 기술을 나누는 사람이 아니라, 누군가의 로고가 박힌 후드티를 입고 서 있는 마케터가 된 것 같다는 느낌. 개발자 옹호라는 이름 아래 실은 마케팅이 커뮤니티 빌딩으로 포장되고 있다는 비판이, 비판이 아니라 체감이 되기 시작했습니다. 이런 회의감이 저와 제 동료들의 순수한 열정을 갉아먹기 시작했습니다. 그래서인지 재미도 없고, 커뮤니티 활동 자체를 놓게 되더라구요. 요즘 밖에서 만나는 분들과 이런 이야기를 해보기도 하는데 비단 저 혼자만의 이야기가 아닐거라고 조심스럽게 느끼고 있습니다. 그런데 여기서 흥미로운 것은, 최근 AI 생태계에서 새롭게 생겨나는 빌더 커뮤니티들에서 오히려 예전의 커뮤니티 정신이 다시 느껴진다는 점입니다. 회사의 프로그램이 아니라 사용자들이 자발적으로 모여 만든 커뮤니티들. 아무도 시키지 않았는데 기술을 나누고, KPI 없이 서로를 돕는 그 열기. 커뮤니티의 원형이 거기에 있었다는 걸 다시 깨닫게 됩니다. 부디 커뮤니티를 운영하고 싶은 기업이라면, 어떤 가치를 추구하는지 솔직했���면 좋겠습니다. 커뮤니티라는 이름으로 포장하지 말구요.

It has been an incredibly rich and rewarding journey, filled with growth, technical challenges, and invaluable connections. I want to express my deepest gratitude to my colleagues who made this experience so special. A huge thank you to the incredible APJC DevRel team for the diverse perspectives and the collaborative spirit we shared. Always the team was my home at AWS. I also owe a debt of gratitude to my senior teammates in Japan, whose mentorship and deep understanding of the JAWS-UG community were essential in my journey. Furthermore, I was truly fortunate to work with so many cross-functional colleagues across the organization. While I wish I could name every single person who supported me, the list is simply too long to include here. Please know that your collaboration made these past 1.5 years incredibly fulfilling and memorable. Moving forward, I’ve decided to follow my true passion: Observability and Open Source. I realized this is where I want to dedicate 100% of my energy, specializing as an expert to help developers build more transparent and reliable systems. I’m now taking a short, well-deserved break to recharge in Yamanashi before starting my next adventure on April 7th. Thank you to everyone who was part of my AWS chapter. Channy Yun (윤석찬) reacted on this한국 AI builder 들의 SF 진출기. 샌프란시스코와 서울에서 동시에 Ralphthon이 열렸다. Team Attention이 주도했고, 테크 스타트업, 투자사, 대기업, 그리고 일부 백수(..) 개발자들의 100% 자발적 참여��� 만들어졌다. 그리고 거의 모든걸 한인들의 힘으로 했다. 십수년 전 hackathon은 사회적, 교육적, 산업적으로 꽤 뚜렷한 흔적을 남겼는데, 그중에서도 창업 생태계에선 Startup weekend 와 같은 포맷과 아주 효과적으로 결합해서 채용, 투자로 확장되는 경우를 왕왕 볼 수 있었다. 한국에선 2016년 정도 전후해서 이 포맷이 조금씩 시들기 시작했고, 약 10년이 지난 지금 바로 그 자리에서 Ralphthon이 기지개를 피는 과정을 지켜보고 있다. 이 순간을 캡쳐하고 싶어서 몇가지 기록한다. * 과거 해커톤은 개발자가 코딩을 하는게 핵심이었다면, 이제는 아키텍트, PM이 그 자리를 채우는 것 같다. 자연스럽게 코딩 실력이 아니라, 설계 능력을 바탕으로 한 제품의 완성도를 지향점으로 삼는 경향이 보인다. 물론 여전히 토이 프로젝트는 많다. * 참가자들과 얘기할 시간이 정말 풍성하다. 랄프톤의 최고 장점이라고 본다. 당연히 코딩은 AI가 하기 때문이다. 과거 해커톤은 코딩하는 시간 만큼은 강한 Silo 현상이 일어났다면, 랄프톤은 그게 거의 없다. 서로 경험을 공유하고 연대를 쌓는 방식이 더 세련되어졌다고 볼 수 있다. 에너지 드링크가 눈에 안보이는 것도 단적인 차이점이다. 굳이 밤샘 이벤트를 할 필요가 없으니. * 해커톤이 교육, 창업, 커리어 개발에 미쳤던 영향을 고려하면 지금 세대의 랄프톤이 보여줄 영향력도 상상해볼 수 있다. 그 특성상 훨씬 보편재적 성격을 갖고 있기 때문에 과거 개발자들만의 전유물이 아니라 더 폭넓은 가능성을 보여줄 수도 있으리라. * 내가 아는 범주 내에서, 한국에서 나고 자란 사람들이 북미에서 개최한 최초의 해커톤, 랄프톤 사례다. (북미 거주 한인들이 한 해커톤은 있었지만) 행사 기획 단계에서 Team Attention Goobong Jeong 님과 얘기 나눌때 나는 좀더 브랜딩과 전략을 설계한 후에 하자고 했지만, 이들은 그냥 냅다 달렸다. 지금 생각해보면 이 돌파력이 이 순간을 만들어낸 것 같다. 반성한다. * 150명 정도가 왔는데, 현지인들 말로는 엄청 많이 왔단다. 한인이 중심이 되어 행사를 추진했지만, 실제 한인 비중은 40% 정도로 로컬 참여도가 매우 높았다. 이게 가능했던건 폐쇄 네트워크를 통해 마케팅하기 보다는 builder 들의 글로벌 네트워크가 짧은 시간동안 효과적으로 작동했기 때문이라고 본다. 그만큼 한국의 개발자, 빌더들이 국적 불문 영향력이 생겼다는 산 증거이기도 하다. 참 많이 변했다. * NAVER D2SF가 10년 간 한국에서 주로 활동하면서 만든 인연들을 여기서도 참 많이 만났다. 당장 랄프톤 주동자 두분이 우리 포트폴리오 파운딩 멤버였었고, 오래전 D2SF 인턴들이 버클리 등 대학과 현지 스타트업에서 왔다가 우연히 만나서 너무 반가웠다. 그중 한 친구는 우리보러 프랑스가는 비행기를 하루 늦추고 와서 눈물나게 고마웠다.투자 검토하다가 만난 대표님들도 여럿 계셨고. 인연이란 어디로 이어지는지 참 알 수가 없다. 착하게 살아야지. * 개인적으로 이번 랄프톤에서 가장 의미있고 기억에 남기고 싶은 순간은, 우승자 발표 시간이다. 1~3등까지를 모두 ‘비’ 한국팀이 했다. 난 이 지점이 참 좋았다. 한인들이 기획하고, 한인들만 참가하는 행사였다면 잃는게 훨씬 많았을 거라고 본다. 설령 국뽕이 남았을진 모르겠다. 하지만 우리끼리만 파티하고 경쟁해서는 우리 실력을 알 수 없고 echo chamber 속에 빠지기 십상이다. 자기 객관화를 못하면 이 동네의 냉정한 시장 논리를 돌파할 수 없다. 그리고 멜팅 팟에 녹아들어야 친구를 많이 사귀고 우리도 다양성을 이해하게 된다. 외연을 넓힐 수 있는 건 덤이다. ‘K-something’으로 갔다면 우린 많은 것들을 모른채 지나쳤을 거다. 그러지 않은 덕에 오히려 K가 돋보이게 만들었다. 어쩌다보니 서울과 샌프란의 랄프톤을 동시에 후원하게 되었는데, 이런 작은 움직임이 시대를 열어가는 힘의 하나가 된다는 믿음이 있다. 조금이라도 기여할 수 있어서 운이 좋다는 생각을 했다. 토욜 새벽까지 우리 포트폴리오 대표님과 (뭔가를 마시면서) 달리고, 토욜 아침 9시부터 12시간 동안 랄프톤의 에너지 속에 있었더니 녹초가 됐다. 참가자로 안간게 천만 다행이다. 이제 뒷풀이 하러 가야지. 멋진 순간을 남겨준 분들 : Goobong Jeong Jin Hyung Park (Sigrid Jin) HoYeon Lee Jake Park Dorothy Kim Jaegu Ahn 그외 아직 링친이 아닌 많은 분들Channy Yun (윤석찬) reacted on thisAI가 코딩하는 동안, 빌더들은 커뮤니티를 만듭니다.
