Featured Article : Association between the hemoglobin A1c/High-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and stroke incidence: a prospective nationwide cohort study in China

New Content Item (1)By Chaojuan Huang, Hongtao You, Yuyang Zhang, Ligang Fan, Xingliang Feng & Naiyuan Shao

In this study, the authors utilized data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study spanning from 2011 to 2018. They assessed the link between HbA1c/HDL-C levels and stroke incidence.

The findings revealed that elevated HbA1c/HDL-C levels are significantly associated with increased stroke risk. This underscores the potential of using HbA1c/HDL-C as a clinical marker for assessing long-term stroke risk and guiding preventive measures in healthcare practices. Read full article here.

Featured Article : Association between metabolic score for visceral fat index and BMI-adjusted skeletal muscle mass index in American adults

New Content Item (1)A recent study explored the connection between metabolic score for visceral fat (METS-VF) and skeletal muscle mass index (SMI), revealing important insights into how abdominal obesity impacts muscle health. The findings indicated that increased visceral fat is associated with lower muscle mass among U.S. adults. Read full article here.

Featured Article: Association between body roundness index and risk of osteoarthritis: a cross-sectional study

New Content Item (8)This study explores connection between body roundness index (BRI) and osteoarthritis (OA). The researchers utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning from 1999 to 2018, involving 12,946 individuals.
The developed prediction model demonstrated potential that combining BRI with other easily accessible factors was helpful in assessing and managing high-risk OA groups. Read full article here.

Featured Article: Deficiency of lysophosphatidic acid receptor 3 decreases erythropoietin production in hypoxic mouse kidneys

This interesting research article explores the physiological function of LPAR3 in mouse kidneys under hypoxia. Read full article here.

Aims and scope

Lipids in Health and Disease is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes articles on all aspects of lipids: their interaction with proteins, (bio)chemistry, (molecular) pharmacology, (molecular) toxicology, natural products chemistry, role in health and disease, in addition to the synthesis of new lipid compounds, and enzyme systems involved in lipid metabolism.

Lipids in Health and Disease is aimed at all scientists, health professionals, and physicians interested in lipids. Lipids are defined herein based on their broadest sense and include cholesterol, triacylglycerol, fatty acids, phospholipids, sphingolipids, glycosphingolipids, remnant cholesterol, inositol lipids, second messenger lipids, and other storage and bioactive forms of these molecules. Other topics of interest include enzymes and synthetic machinery that are involved in the metabolism of various lipids in cells and tissues and various aspects of lipid transport. In addition, the journal also publishes research that investigates and defines the role of lipids in various physiological processes, pathology, and disease. In particular, the journal aims to bridge the gap between the bench and the clinic by publishing articles that are particularly relevant to human diseases and the role of lipids in the management of various diseases.
