Low-cost drones should not require million-dollar missiles to stop them ❌ Tech Horizons has invested in Calgary-based North Vector Dynamics, becoming the company’s first European VC investor. NVD is building a more practical way to defend against the drone threat already reshaping modern warfare. Instead of relying on expensive interceptors to stop cheap, mass-deployed drones, they are developing air defense systems designed for the economics of today’s battlefield: scalable, precise, and built to protect troops, infrastructure, and critical assets without burning through limited missile stockpiles. 🛡️ That matters for Europe, for NATO, and for the wider alliance. As our Partner Matej Luhový put it: “Cost-effective, layered air defense against Shahed-class threats and hypersonic weapons remains an unsolved problem, and we are proud to be joining NVD as they help solve it.” Big congratulations to Paul Ziadé, Craig Johansen, Colin Hill, and the whole NVD crew. Prague turns into a hackers’ hub again this weekend 🦾🇨🇿 From May 15 to 17, European Defense Tech is bringing its hackathon back to Prague, with hackers, operators, engineers, founders, and mentors working on real defense challenges over one intense weekend. Demo Day is happening on Sunday, with teams showing what they managed to build in less than 48 hours. Our Matej Luhový will be there as a mentor, helping teams think and work through what can actually work beyond the prototype stage. Huge thanks to EDTH for bringing this community back to Prague, to EY Czech for hosting, and to U&C UAS s.r.o. as key partner.
