$\begingroup$ The problem with decreasing WorkingPrecision is that then it isn't clear what precision the output of NSolve has. I'd rather adjust that, similar to how PrecisionGoal works for other functions. $\endgroup$

$\begingroup$ You can query the precision of the output with Precision, as described here. The thrust of my Answer, though, is that you will not save much time with WorkingPrecison set less than MachinePrecision. $\endgroup$
